how much pre-planning did you put into laoft before you started to write it? i tend to just hit the ground running with fics and go into it with almost no planning at all but i'm trying to do more of an outline for one right now and Got Curious because laoft is so well done and there's so much clever foreshadowing

i starting the planning stages of laoft pretty much immediately after deceit was introduced, in february of 2018

every other page is a mirror was published in september of 2018

my planning included several versions of an outline, multiple scenes (and some just lines, when i thought of a way to foreshadow something and didnt want to forget it) written far in advance, and many many reference files for lore and meta

now, i will say, seven months is a touch excessive - a lot of the reason i put it off so long was because i had never successfully written a long form fic, and i kept procrastinating posting anything because i was worried it would be just another long fic i started and abandoned/left unfinished.

but giving yourself a solid outline and then revising that outline will make it a lot easier to connect a whole lot of threads. and having a lot of reference files for your worldbuilding will make it easier to go "i need o put something her," open a file, copy paste, and keep writing without getting sunk into a worldbuilding rabbit hole
