Processing through Fourth Wing's Ending thoughts with me Part 4 with SPOILERS!!! (& other 3 post summaries + some Iron Flame theories)

So:

I think Xaden is gonna have a long journey in winning Violet back (as he should, she deserves to be fought for & respected in boundaries). Though it’s also a little hard to watch knowing where this all comes from & it’s a little mixed up/misdirected.

Speaking of misdirection Dain Aetos has some explaining to do, unless I read that wrong; if he intentionally sent Violet & Liam off to their deaths thanks to his betrayal… nope. No.

I am utterly destroyed over Liam & dreading the aftershocks of it… meeting his sister is going to make me cry & I will protect that baby with my life.

Brennan also has some explaining to do, backstory to give, etc.

So mostly I’m ruined and this book is gonna ruin me even more and then it’ll be time to cry with Onyx Storm… so… yeahhh

I am dying to know what the deal is with Lilith Sorrengail… she can’t truly have meant to get her children killed can she? Is she a part of the rebellion somehow? And what was the deal with Violet’s dad? Plus a lesser but still prominent question: what does Mira know? I get the feeling it’s not much… but I am curious all things considered how many more secrets that family holds.

Violet included in the latter as I wonder if the poison affected her memory, powers, etc. it seemed to be a different situation (to the level I was worried she’d turn Venin or something). Have her powers changed with Andarna growing? — WHY DID ANDARNA GROW? How long was she asleep for? What does that make the powers now? … also morbid question I don’t want the answer to but have a fear of learning: if Tairn dies could Andarna keep Violet alive?.. I just have a bad feeling about one of her dragons all things considered. — I’m just scared of who’s going to die next book since clearly they are not afraid to kill the ones I love.

Not important, probably fine, but how’s Rhi? I miss my bestie girl… where is she? What’s up babe? Will I get my crew back? Please tell me she and Riddoc did no betraying.😅😅

And of course between characters and secrets and the final chapter being Xaden’s perspective: what are the many stories he has yet to tell? What’s the deal with his mom? What’s all those one line mentions of things to catch Violet up on?.. please tell me we resume in time so it’s not 5 chapter of brief references & 0 explanations?

I have a bad feeling the robed Venin are someone we know or a bigger deal… also probably Dain’s dad being evil… and some big horrible betrayal upcoming and hurting my babies so not looking forward to that.

Mostly it’ll be fun to see what another year looks like… especially when Xaden graduates… and is tethered to Violet who is going to probably hate him & fill the book with angst… so I’m gonna have to strap in for a bump ride I suppose. We shall see! And no spoilers please these questions are rhetorical/hypothetical😂 though if anything happens to Liam’s little sister give me a heads up please🙃

Finally, in review of the first book:

I love Violet. Her heart is her first power, I love the brave fierce way she loves, and has a true compass for goodness… the way she didn’t blink at rebellion if it was right; she processed that extraordinarily fast & it says a lot as to her as a character. I love her wit, which is honestly awe striking and a superpower in itself and we just LOVE a smart heroine. She is also an awesome representation for the EDS/Chronic Illness community and FMC’s in general, which I greatly appreciated (especially for how relatable she managed to be not only for the disability community, but young identifying women who get called “crazy” or “not believed”, kids who are bullied (though this book is not for kids😅😂) and just generally speaking esp. for being fantasy fiction… she’s funny, she’s a mood, and her POV was great).

On the note of representation: I also loved the way they did adaptations (such as the saddle for example: because she did the work, and it’s just not accessible, so why not make it functional? The debate she has of using it or not resembles conversations I’ve had with many people when it comes to mobility aids, they worry about people seeing, about people thinking them less capable, about the mentality of “power through it” when really it makes more sense just to use the help you have when you need it… it’s not an act of weakness or lesser). The way Rhi even tries to compliment it, to encourage her, and the agency it still gives Tairn & even Andarna, who’s a friggin time-stopping dragon (she’s certainly not weak even if she is not as “strong”—not the word I’m looking for as the other dragons, she’s still a dragon) and she too uses the help!

And the dynamics they have within chronic illness relationships… from the over-protective: I CAN DO IT ON MY OWN many people end up with in siblings & previous caregivers. To the truth that there are some things you cannot do on your own and that’s okay even if your never okay with it. To the way Xaden not once thinks less of Violet for it or gives her special treatment; he is fair to each of them (well as fair as Xaden can be amid murder school). Or the way Dain’s comfort quickly turns into a stinging degradation even if it’s well-meaning & frankly valid (she may very well get herself killed there, he’s not wrong; but he also could, and she could die just as easily getting sent back) it’s her choice, and she does a damn good job honestly. And they try to give agency to Violet in that where they can and I appreciated that.

I love Tairn a lot, especially in character dynamics like his humor & protective affection for Violet in reminding her she is worthy & also please don’t die. He loves a lot, especially for such a “scary, tough” dragon. There’s a strength to that sort of love. And of course Andarna who is a fierce, brave, loving, joyous, other half to Violet’s soul… how could you not love her?

Xaden managed to avoid some very frequent and infuriating YA love interest tropes that I appreciated and while I won’t claim him to be “perfect” (because I know all YA novels have a problem if we’re gonna make it real world) but for the sake of character I actually found him to be not only attractive, intriguing, and entertaining as the classic “rebellious, bad boy, enemies to lovers, angsty brooding burdened softy” but also empowering, fiercely loving, protective but not stifling, and some strong standing points that are needed such as consent, or the why as to how he cares for people. He’s got good reasoning. He’s not needlessly cruel. He also has a cause he is a rebel with a cause, and not some nonsensical brooding, no he has reason. Generally I found him interesting & entertaining without being infuriating. And while he has his issues he’s a very young guy kinda issues? Idk the right way to put it. But I do think him and Violet with trust, and no “forced bodyguard” situations have the potential to be a really awesome couple. I mean he’s pretty much a shadow boi… like it’s fairly simple😂 and she’s the sunny & stormy trope. So, of course I’m an absolute idiot for him and find them sweet.

Also thanks for making the best friend bi! And if I’m correct some non-binary characters too! This book did a good job at trying to give some more representation. And managed to go beyond the basics of YA novels.

Overall it made me laugh it made me cry, I’m not calling it the perfect book but minus killing off one of my favorite characters it was a lot of fun and I look forward to the next one and think this will definitely be a favorite series of all time. And while I’ll process for fuller reviews (not that this isn’t already obnoxiously long). I really enjoyed this one a LOT!

So, off to Iron Flame with our theories, feels, and thoughts we go! Wish me luck! And we’re almost to Onyx Storm so yay for all you long-term fans!

(Should I read slow to avoid waiting a few days inbetween? I’m worried for a cliff-hanger😂)

Oh, and because he deserves to be in here: Yes, Liam was a favorite from day one. He always will be. He was just genuinely good, easy to like, funny, entertaining in his conversations to everyone, depth to the feelings it brought he added layers to many stories, he was kind and loyal… so loyal… somehow even to Violet, even with the lies, he was a good friend and he loved them all a lot. And more than just brawn (though also he was described to be a total heartthrob) he was also smart! And he learned sign language which I always love as someone who grew up speaking ASL for my sisters… he was the best of his class, and frankly just deserved a lot more. Watch Deigh & then him die broke me and I really thought they’d find a way out of it because he just loved his friends so much.😭 And I hate that this is gonna be the pain of the next book… it’s a little too personal for me right now in my own real life with holiday grief & stuff so I totally bawled like a baby… and the fact he said he just wanted to be alive, and see his sister… yeah-not-okay-enough to write this. I shall miss our sweet bb blonde wood carver boi.

Okay, time to go be basic: fall for the shadow guy, root for the FMC & project my life onto her, feel all the ship angst, cry for the fictional sweetheart, & totally fall for whatever the writes me to like/hate & guiltily forgive/hold onto…

I like to imagine that Sabrina (with Nick having sacrificed himself again and is in the sweet hereafter) finds Harvey, and they get a second chance. I even imagine they have that wedding, and he supports her while she grows up to become head of the coven.

(There's no way that Harvey and Roz don't break up after she becomes a Weird sister. There's just no way. Agatha & Prudence must have mentioned how Harvey is dangerous for her if he finds out what really happened with the mines. FYI ROZ KNOWS that the Weird Sisters killed Tommy. SHE NEVER TOLD HARVEY. Neither did Sabrina but Roz said SHE WAS NOTHING LIKE SABRINA. Yeah right. And the only real reason they were together on the show was because they were together irl and Ross & Jaz already broke up.)

New Nabrina fic: No rest for the wicked.

Chapter 1: The Aftermath

Summary: Sabrina Spellman had deceived death on more than one occasion. And she was willing to do it again, just to bring her boyfriend back.

Takes place in a post part 4 world after they rise from the dead.  

Most days were good, some were just okay.  And while rare, other days are really fucking hard.  Life was more simple after they were both risen from the dead, but it wasn’t without its challenges.  Nick and Sabrina filled their time with researching the Coven’s new Goddess and sitting in classes at Baxter High, somehow always ending up lounging around for hours in her bed.   

They went on triple dates with the Fright Club and Sabrina and Roz would giggle in the bathroom, marveling at how much Nick and Harvey were getting along.  Gone were the days of cutting glares and side comments, and Nick even got Harvey’s name right…well most of the time.

Rumor had it that Lilith was now running Hell, that she’d gotten her hands on the Spear of Longinus and stolen the Dark Lord's power for herself.  Nick and Sabrina weren’t sure if the thought brought them comfort or fear given that that meant Lucifer was likely wandering around the Earth searching for someone to lord power over.  He didn’t have his celestial magic anymore but he was still the face of torture, at least Nick’s anyway. 

“Did you or did you not bring with you a pack of possessed miners to our doorstep to kill us all.”  Nick froze in the mortuary foyer when he heard Zelda’s stern voice.  Sabrina paused too, reaching for his hand and squeezing it.  Her breath caught knowing that it could be Caliban or Lucifer in the study, and neither she was prepared for.

Nick swallowed hard when they peeked their heads around slightly and saw him, Lucifer Morningstar trying his best to stand tall but failing miserably.  He was a shrunken version of himself, face pallor and body thin, but his presence still had Nick nearly stumbling on his feet.  

Nick had been doing alright lately and had been opening up more about Hell, talking through his experiences and learning coping skills that didn’t do more harm than good.   But with that came surges of memories, and times when the triggers just got to be too much.  

Such was the case today and Nick took off in a hurried stumble towards Sabrina’s room.  She followed after him, having no desire to hear what her false father was begging them for, even if seeing the once devout Zelda obliterate him with her words would have been very entertaining.

He was pacing in her room when she reached him, eyes wild and darting across the room.  

“Nick.”  She said softly but he either didn't hear her or was too focused on his mind somersault to answer She hesitantly reached out to touch his shoulder, worried he might flinch or lash out like he did in the woods, but instead his head whipped towards her and his face shifted from a wild terror to a softer one.

“What’s he doing here, Spellman?”  He asked her as his voice broke.  She reached for him immediately, pulling him into her arms and running a hand through his hair just the way she knew he liked.  

“I don’t know, babe.”  Nick sighed deeply and took a breath, smelling her hair and letting her rose shampoo ground him.   She held him even tighter and kissed the side of his head.  “I don’t know.”

“He probably wants something.”  Nick guessed as he pulled from her a bit so he could look at her, moving his hands up and down her arms until he could grab her hands. 

“And I can assure you Aunt Zee will not give it to him.”  Her tone was sure of itself, confident that her aunties would hardly give Lucifer the time of day.  Still his presence in the mortuary had an effect, the evil and discomfort was seeping through the house and it made Nick shiver.  He knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep in that tonight unless he knew for sure the Devil had left.  And Nick wasn’t about to tiptoe downstairs to find out.  Nick scowled at the thought of him and Sabrina reached over to smooth the lines on his forehead that had formed.  He let out a resigned sigh, giving in to the knowledge that it’d be another sleepless night for him, nightmares to follow if he did drift off, and lifted Sabrina’s hand to his lips to kiss it.  

At least she was there.  If he had to lie awake all night at least he’d have her in his arms.  He could focus on the sound of her breath and how her brows furrowed when she slept.  He could run his hand up and down her back and listen to her instinctual sigh, pull her closer when she undoubtedly snuggled close to her.  

Except her brow was furrowing now, and she looked just as uncomfortable as he did.  This time he reached out to her and squeezed her side, leaning forward to kiss her forehead. 

“Whatever it is, it doesn’t change anything.”  He said to her before kissing her forehead again.  “I love you.”

“I love you too.”  Sabrina responded, tilting her head up so he could kiss her.  “Why don’t we stay at your place tonight.”

“My place?”  Nick asked with raised brows and a small smirk on his lips. 

“Your room at the academy.”  She wrapped her arms around his neck and cocked her head to the side.  “You still have it right?”

“Well sure, but I haven’t stayed there in months.”  Nick smiled. 

“Sure but its far far away from here.”  Sabrina leaned in close and brushed his nose with hers as a booming yell rang out from downstairs.  Hilda had likely banished Lucifer or something, but neither Nick or Sabrina wanted to stick around to find out.

“Let’s go.”  He kissed her once long and slow, and then one quick peck.  “No one will bother us there.”

Hc of susie q raising that little baby joseph got during diu. I dont remwmber her name im sorry!

•She dotes on Shizuka all the time!! Suzie believes she’s the cutest little baby. She compliments Joseph on his makeup skills, wondering if he will do hers sometime.

•At first when Joseph comes home with this baby she’s like, “Dios mío is that yours???” And then this old fart has to very quickly explain that he adopted her before he gets shot off the penthouse of his own place.

•Suzie is a wonderful mother. Just as she was with Holly, she is kind and teaches Shizuka the morals a woman needs in order to survive and thrive in a world among men. She reads her books constantly, watches Sesame Street with her, and takes her out to feed the ducks. She’ll probably want to homeschool her too, considering the circumstances of her powers. Until she can control the invisibility, she hires tutors through the speedweed foundation.

•When the baby is a bit older, Suzie will definitely take her out on shopping trips and let her pick the cutest princess-y outfits as much as she wants. She’ll pay for it too if she thinks that that green tone definitely fits her.

•This blessing of a woman spoils her baby for sure. It doesn’t matter that Shizuka is adopted either, she accepts her and treats her as her own with no problems. Joseph thinks the same, and since he is an old man that doesn’t travel much anymore, he has time for his second daughter and probably spoils her more than Suzie does. Shizuka will grow up to be one of the kindest and strongest women that the world ever saw~

This is another post part 3 scene

In the short time she’d known him, Nicholas Scratch had become a staple in Sabrina’s life just as much as the headband that graced her curls. He was usually at her side with a book in his hand and a smirk on his face, ready to flirt his way through the day until she smiled or sent him away. Later he held her hand instead of books and she kissed his smirk rather than pinch her brows at it, usually coming up with some witty response of her own. But as of recently he hadn’t occupied the space next to her and her hand ran cold for lack of holding.

He was usually found on a stool at Dorian’s or in some deep corner of the library where not even Sabrina could find him. He didn’t believe he was worthy of standing at her side anymore. And Sabrina struggled with the battle of dragging him there herself or straight to the witches cell where he’d be locked away, never to hurt her again. Neither option seemed particularly logical, and she made a decision that splitting herself in half was the last irrational thing she’d do. Though loving Nick had never been exactly rational, more like an inevitable dive off a cliff that had been equal parts scary and exhilarating. It hadn’t been the same as loving Harvey, and she’d recovered from him. The crushing blow of loving and losing Nick was more than she could handle most days so she spent her free time outside of the academy and away from Dorian’s, one hundred percent doing it to avoid any chance of seeing him.

The whisperings began slowly, like a leak, trickling here and there and eventually gaining strength. Soon it was like the entire Academy was flooded with the news of their breakup, and Sabrina had never seen so many witches and warlocks flock to one person before. She’d not understood until then, Nick in a circle of love-struck peers, just how much (or rather who) he was missing out on by committing to be with her. An intrusive voice in her head told her he’d eventually be led that way anyways, that he’d grow bored of her, but she just knew that wasn’t true.

Nick hardly paid them any mind anyways, brushing them off with whatever force necessary and locking himself away behind any door that closed. She wished he’d consider running to her side, but that wasn’t who they were anymore. But that still didn’t mean she wanted him to go anywhere.

“Did you hear Nick’s leaving?” She overheard Melvin first, speaking to another student.

“I hear he’s so fucked up he can’t even think straight.” Another witch said another time.

“I can’t blame him for wanting to get out of Greendale. Wherever he’s going, I hope he never comes back.” Someone else whispered during lunch.

Each little bit of information was like an arrow to the heart, and she knew what that felt like. Sabrina eventually got the information out of Zelda, Nick was leaving the coven for an unforeseen amount of time, and may never be back. Even though their relationship was in shambles Sabrina had always thought they’d someday make it back together. But that couldn’t happen if he was gone. As much as she knew he probably needed to leave, one night in a moment of desperation and weakness she teleported herself to his room.

She didn’t knock and just barged in, face red and eyes wide, locking gazes with Nick who was packing up a bag.

“Sabrina-” he started.

“So it’s true.” Sabrina said, doing her best to bite back the tears that were coming on suddenly. “You’re leaving.”

With a deep breath he nodded, and put his hands on his hips.

“Yes.” He pressed his lips together. “I have to go.”

“Why?” She asked him and crossed her arms, stepping a bit closer. “Why do you have to leave.”

“You know why.” He answered her and took another step closer. He reached for her hand, desperate to touch her one last time, but she flinched away as if he’d burned her. “Sabrina, I can’t be here anymore it’s too…it’s too much.”

“But the Coven-with Blackwood…we need you.” She argued but he shook his head. She took a deep breath and then whispered so softly he nearly didn’t hear her, “I need you.”

“You don’t need me, Sabrina Spellman.” The corner of his mouth turned up sadly. “You’ve never needed me.”

“That’s not true.” She shook her head fiercely and wiped away the tears that were now streaming down her face. “I know you know that’s not true.”

Nick's face twisted and he looked down, unable to see her big brown eyes looking at him the way she was.

“You’ll be okay.” He whispered and this time she let him grab at her hands and play with her fingers.

“Nick…”. She breathed out and bit her bottom lip, pleading with him. “Don’t go…please.”

She knew if he walked out the door she’d likely never see him again. And that, she could not fathom. Nick pulled her closer and kissed her forehead, feeling her shiver at the gesture and leaving his lips against her skin for a hair too long.

“Stay with me.” She begged one last time, pleaded with him even more than when she had asked him to kiss her.

“I love you, Spellman.” He told her as he kissed her hair quickly one more time. For the last time. He was gone in a flash before she could say it back, before she could beg him to let her go with him.

He was just gone.

She didn’t sleep a wink that night, crying in her room and placing a charm on her door so not even the strongest magic would allow Ambrose or the Aunties in. Eventually after she emptied all the water in her body through her tears she lay awake in her bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze. She was numb, pushing away the acceptance that Nick was gone for good, forever.

A gust of wind blew against her cheek, and when she turned her head to the window sill Nick was there, looking worse for wear and like he’d just come back from battle. In a way he was, having fought with himself about five minutes after he left, finally giving in and realizing he could never truly leave Sabrina. It seemed the gateway allowing Nick into her room at anytime was still active because he moved about the room quickly, discarding his jacket and shoes and joining her in the bed without a word.

She turned to look at him but he still said nothing, staring at the ceiling and reaching over to grab her hand. She took a deep breath and laid on her back as well, finally letting sleep overtake her. He was gone by the time she woke up but she saw him around the halls the next day, dark circles gone from where they once lived under his eyes. They didn’t speak again, and he didn’t return to her bed.

But he didn’t leave either.
