Government Shutdown Diary: Day 10
When I woke up this morning, in the split second before I took in my surroundings, I believed that I was safe at home. Then reality hit and I felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. Welcome to life post-shutdown. Upon waking, my only goal was to find Cass. The food was in the car, so finding her now had two objectives. I walked toward the gas station and observed the wild. It's interesting. Out here, there are no signs of a shutdown. Back home, everywhere you looked there was a sign of the shutdown. It's nice to, even if only for a second, forget about all of that. About a mile away from the station I found the minivan. She wasn't in it, but it was full of gas and the food was untouched. I figured she had to be in the woods, hiding. Sure enough, with a little searching, I found her sleeping in a small cave, hidden from plain sight. I woke her, and she punched me. It's good that she sleeps defensively, but that hurt. She's stronger than she appears. She's fine. She didn't want to travel too far in case I came back. It's good that we're on the same wave length with our thoughts. That could be useful. Neither of us knows where the freaks went so we drove down the road, and decided to leave tomorrow. We just need sleep. At least we've made it this far.
