So here’s a question for everybody

So here’s a question for everybody. (And you’ll see why I repeated that in a minute.)

I’ve spent the morning looking at new premium Tumblr themes (because the collection of non-premium oines is really, REALLY dire) and have found two that I like.

Each of them has problems, though. One of them suggests that the customers find some of its features nonfunctional for reasons nobody seems able to identify. And the support team are not entirely clear in responses to queries when making them in English.

The other theme is this one, “Oblivion”, by Adraft. It has many things in its favor -- design, look-and-feel, features: it also somewhat favors my home blog at “Out Of Ambit”, which is good. And not at all least, the theme producer is Irish. Which is great as I like to shop close to home and support local talent when I can. (This link will show you a live demo.)

The thing that brings me up short is this, which the theme-maker sets out clearly so you won’t miss it:

This theme converts the first paragraph of text in the caption of every post to the title of the post, so please be aware that this technique may cause problems in existing blogs.

Now when I saw this at first I kind of NOPE NOPE NOPEd away from the very idea. 

...And then I thought: (a) This is only going to apply to older posts. I can fix them as and when I feel like it. (b) And seriously: does anyone but me care about my old post titles?

So there’s the question for you (answers enabled on this post, BTW...)(I think.). And I’d appreciate it if as many people as have time to would leave me an answer in the notes (if not in the ask box or wherever), so that I have the biggest possible data sampling available to make my choice.

(ETA: BTW, thanks to those of you who’ve suggested I check out theme-hunter.tumblr.com; I appreciate the suggestion. I spent a good while in there over my lunch hour scrolling and scrolling and SCROLLING through it, and unfortunately I’m not finding anything that would suit what I presently want in a theme without significant hacking. The point here being that I no longer have time for the hacking: I’ve got too much work on my plate and too little time to do it as it is. Oh well... it was worth a try. Thanks again.)

If I go over to this theme, would you care one way or another if old post titles were changed to the first line of the post?

A Quick question of sorts, or maybe more, for my readers: I have to ask; Do any of my recent attempts at adding titles to my posts do anything for you? Do you prefer them with the titles or do you not care? 

I ask because I’m pondering once more if I should  even bother with an attempt at titling the majority of my posts on here. Unless a lot of my readers prefer it that way, and/or it helps them out in some way. 

I mean, I’m really struggling with this. The part of my brain that demands stability and organization, pesters me to want to add titles to every single post to make things look cleaner, classier, and I guess more professional. 

And that is kind of where I find the epic failure. Because I’m not really good at being formal or over professional. I mean I can do it and do it fairly well if I’m a situation or position where I have to or it honestly makes things better. 

But I hate doing so if I don’t have to. Doing so or attempting to do so when I don’t have to is like grinding my teeth hard together while listening to nails being scraped across a chalkboard. 

And of course that side of my brain I just mentioned tends to butt heads with a larger and more important side of my brain, which is the creative side, which is also my inner bard of sorts. 

I think, though I could be wrong, that one of the reasons I wanted to attempt to add titles to all the posts, or at least as many posts as I can, is to keep it on the same level as the wordpress blog I’m slowly putting together. 

And I realize the folly in that. The wordpress version of this blog is by it’s very nature a more formal version of my blogging presence. While this version of that blog is supposed to be the more informal, laid back, and more outgoing and responsiveversion of my blogging presence.

Maybe I should save the post titles for when its important or when I’m posting something of considerable length and importance? Or save them for when I post something of considerable worth, at least to myself? 

I don’t know. Maybe I’m taking this too seriously and obsessing over it a little too much like I tend to do at times?

This may come off sounding pathetic but I’m holding off on posting a few things I have in mind at the moment until I can figure out how I want to do things post wise. 

What I mean is that I was thinking of titling every post I make here on out, as well as going back and adding titles to all the post I made previously, but I honestly can’t think of a decent title for every single post I ever made or ever plan on making, without them coming out sounding boring and way too technical for my taste. 

Part of the reason I was thinking of adding titles to all my posts is in the hopes of possibly getting the attention of new people to check out this blog, as I know some of the post I made in the past, either on this blog or on the previous blog that this blog evolved out of seemed to work the best in that fashion. 

Or maybe I just need to post more and work a little more on my tags so that they are a little more noticible and are of more common enough terms. 

I mean, I’m fully aware that my inability to use certain accepted terms within the Pagan/Polytheist blogosphere is probably partly to blame for things. For example I refuse to use the terms astral or Unvertified Personal gnosis in my personal spiritual lingo. I just don’t like certain accepted terms like those two for various reasons. 

Anyway, this is just me sort of thinking out loud or in this case sharing them in a public manar. 

As for the titling thing, maybe I just focus on adding titles to more important, lengthy, posts and just let the various other posts stay titleless like most people seem to do on this web site? 

I tried posting a quick little titleless post on one of the wordpress blogs I own, one of the ones connected to an online identity I no longer use and will end up deleting once I get the wordpress side of this blog up and running, and it just looked weird without any kind of title on it. I’m not sure how I feel about this.
