Derek hadn't exactly forgotten what a hug was, it's not like after the death of his family and the loss of Laura he had retreated back to a caveman like form. He just didn't want for physical touches, there was no urge to do anything with a person; that being a simple hug or anything else on a larger scale. In fact he avoided it all costs no matter whom was approaching him.
But this was different.
Derek took in the space around Stiles eyes, the skin puffy and his cheeks blotched red. The urge to shield the younger boy away from the world was too much for him to handle, not when they'd all been through so much tonight. So he shifted closer, his hand reaching tentatively towards Stiles, his fingertips caressing the lower half of his left arm. A moment later Derek stepped into his space and wrapped his arms around Stiles, allowing the rush of that calming feel to take over him.
Maybe Derek had needed the hug as much as Stiles did.
