On the metal railing overlooking a small stream sat a girl, hair an odd shade of blonde – too unnatural to be born with; too striking to be allowed in school – slender fingers curled lazily around a lollipop stick, the saccharine, rock-hard candy attached held snugly in place between her cherry lips. She had her eyes set on a figure not far away, gaze intent, observing, almost calculatingly. Her long legs dangled in mid-air, swinging idly as the calm evening wind swept her hair across her peach-tinted cheeks. Though she had been keeping her silence for almost an hour now, the girl wasn’t exactly the type to go unnoticed by passersby, especially with that tiny skirt hiking up her milky thighs with every little movement she made.
Pulling the lollipop out of her mouth with a loud ‘pop’, she finally decided to make her presence known to the person she was staring at for quite a while now. She probably thought that no one would be there to catch her in the act, but Joy was everywhere. It was as if she had eyes and ears on every pebble, every tree, including between the gentle whispers of the breeze. No news would spread without getting to her first, not even a false rumour. Hell, the rumour was probably something someone created from the string of words they heard spilling past those sinful lips of hers.
“I saw what you did there,” her voice rang out, clear as a bell. There was no mistaking the sparkle in her eyes – one that signified that she indeed knew something.
