— “when can i take a break ??” she whined, “i want to take a holiday already,” she sighed, tapping her pen against the clipboard, staring at the report she was writing, “i need sleep, i feel my body is crashing from all the caffeine,” esther groaned, slumping in her seat.
The young resident couldn’t help but overheard the surgeon’s monologue when she stepped into the room. Usually she would steer clear from any surgeon but both of them were on-call that night and a new case had just been called into the theater. It was her duty to inform the surgeon once the patient has arrived at the airlock.
“Um sorry to bother you, doctor. The patient is here..” she trailed off, eyes swiftly scanning the form on the clipboard in her hand. Acute appendicitis. A simple operation. “Lap. appendicectomy. Shall I push the patient into suite 2?”

“Grab what you need, and let’s go.” It wasn’t unusual for the blue-haired girl to casually burst through the door of people’s apartments, especially her friends’ like she owns the place. What was unusual this time was the sense of urgency laced in her voice, paired with a deep frown -- an almost determined look on her face as she grabbed the other by the hand.

“Mm, I doubt the truth of that. You’re beautiful, but you hardly look like the daughter of a nurse.” The Shadow demon clicks his tongue, golden eyes flickering over her features for a moment before looking down at his stomach, blinking a few times at the bandaged wound, he exhales a soft sigh, along with a puff of cigarette smoke, before he’s sitting himself up with a grunt.
At the inquiry, a bit of a laugh escapes his lips, velvet in tone and almost sickly sweet. “Demons, silly things they are. But the young ones are always wily, always the ones you have to watch out for. They always fight without reserve, always so passionate about cutting down everything in their way without pause.” He shakes his head slightly, reaching for his shirt with a little sigh, pulling it back over his head.
“Unfortunately, I happened to be in the way tonight.”
His comment was met with an almost blank stare, her face completely devoid of emotion. She may have hesitated earlier when she wanted to pry a little further, but that would be the only time she’d let herself falter -- she didn’t need to stumble and fall face first, spilling every piece of sentiment from her pocket. That would be laughable.
Demons, though. Tacky.
In her mind, they took the form of a testosterone-driven gang with too much time in their hands. And Esaeris here, just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. But she knew all too well that coincidences weren’t real. They were openings which some had decided to grab and wring it dry, milking it of every last bit of chance they presented with.
“If you knew about them so much, surely you’d know not to cross any boundaries, seen or unseen.” She would know.
twists and turns ❆ jujube couple
joowon.
joo won could tell that she was lying. if there were people in there, she wouldn’t be so vocal in letting him know that. plus, she wouldn’t actually do that when there were others there, would she? he actually had no idea. he had never exactly asked about it, if he were honest. it was better to just be ignorant about most things, even if he did internally disapprove of what she did.
but he couldn’t let her do this. he stepped inside the bathroom, already having excuses in mind if there were other people in there. thankfully, there weren’t, which was just as he expected. “if you don’t come out here, i’m finding a way to get into that stall and dragging you out.” she wouldn’t try anything while he was standing right here, right? he shuddered at that thought.
“people are going to find it funny that there’s a guy in here, so you better come out here now so we don’t have to deal with this issue.” he supposed that if it were one of their friends, it might be explainable. but a stranger? that probably wouldn’t look too good but could maybe be lied and excused away. “please … don’t do this,” he exclaimed with a loud sigh.
“Don’t come in,” she warned, but she doubted he would comply.
Maybe, if she was really in love with him, she would actually listen to his words. Maybe, if they were a real couple, she would get herself fixed -- or at least give it a shot. But there were too many maybes and none of them was helping with her anxiety. So his words remained just as words, a passing sound, light, meaningless. She cared for him, that was certain, but she needed to put her priorities first, didn’t she? She was sick, and a sick person needed to be medicated.
So she did what she initially came here to do. She couldn’t control this; it controlled her: guiding her fingers where it throbbed, moving them according to will. It didn’t matter if he’d stepped into the washroom. It didn’t matter if he heard her. Just the thought of him watching her get herself off made her hotter, breath strained as she plunged deep into ecstasy. Normally, a person would stop after hitting their high. Not Sukjoo. She couldn’t stop. She wouldn’t.
Another one was what she needed. Yes. Just one more time...
“It seems like you’ve done this before.” - Esaeris
@decxrumcreatxra
“My mother’s a nurse,” came her brief reply, eyes focussed on her deftly working fingers. It’s funny how words of untruth could sound so convincing when you repeat them often.
A final snip here and her work was finished. What was once a gaping wound had now been reduced to a pink line, skin held together by carefully done stitches. Dressing in place, she gathered the soaked gauze, eyes taking note of the dark colour. She’d seen plenty, but not much could be considered out of the ordinary. ( Not one had looked like this. ) Even so, she made no attempt to point out the obvious. Some things were meant to remain in the dark.
“All good.” A pause.
Hesitation. Curiosity was a killer.

No longer accepting.
The chaos that surrounded Noeul would have been horrifying to others. Flames licked their way up the walls, caressing and kissing the dried and rotting wood. Kisses that led to fainting spells, or at least that’s how Noeul saw it in her mind’s eye as the beams that held the house up began to crash down around her. It was beautiful to the gumiho. Beautiful and poetic and musical and artistic and — where was Irene? While the scene unfolding was certainly a joy to the fox demon, her human friend might not be having quite the same reaction.
“Irene?” Noeul’s voice was booming, the petite woman sifting through the wreckage as she searched for her friend. “Irene!? Are you okay? I’ll find you, I promise.”
How stupid she had been. Entranced by the yellows and reds. Drawn in by the heat and the billowing smoke. As a demon, she could survive such things, but Irene? She was simply a beautiful, young woman who had been caught up in a tragedy. Noeul had to find her. She had to find her and help get her to safety. Luckily, it was only a matter of moments until Noeul came upon the young woman.
Irene was curled in on herself, small hands clenching the material of her sweater. Almost as if she were creating a barrier. Some sort of protection from the fire that would most surely try to consume her if she let go. She was mumbling something that Noeul couldn’t quite hear, but no doubt it was a prayer of some sort. A cry towards the heavens to protect her from impending death.
Noeul’s face softened as she reached out a hand. “Come now, child. I’ve got you. We’ll escape this place together. No harm will come to you, I swear it on my own life.”

“We don’t have to do this.”
“They’re coming for us.”
“How do you know how to do that?”
“What the fuck are you doing in here?”
“We’re getting out of here unseen.”
“Something moved over there.”
“Do you have the stuff?”
“So, what’s the plan?”
“It’s not safe here.”
“This is your fault.”
“We’ve gotta go. Now.”
“Hey, how drunk are you?”
“Hey, how high are you?”
“Is that… a dead body?”
“We’re not alone in here…”
“What do you need me to do?”
“It’s not safe here, you should go.”
“I can’t believe you stole that!”
“Hey, stay close to me. Got it?”
“If they catch us, we’re dead.”
“… There’s no signal out here.”
“Where’s the money you owe me?”
“Have you ever done this before?”
“Did you bring what I asked?”
“I saw you steal that…”
“I think I dropped my weapon.”
“This is the last time I ever do this.”
“Shit, the cops are coming!”
“Wait. I think I heard footsteps.”
“We shouldn’t be doing this.”
“The cops are looking for us.”
“What the fuck is that?!”
“You’re gonna get hurt.”
“Next time, I’ll kill you.”
“It’s my first time doing this.”
“You’re gonna get us caught.”
“You seriously got high without me?”
“You seriously got drunk without me?”
“I’m never doing this with you again.”
“How’d you get all this money?”
“What are you doing out here?”
“What if something goes wrong?”
“I have a bad feeling about this.”
“I’ve never gotten high before…”
“I’ve never gotten drunk before…”
“What the fuck did you do now?”
“Let’s go and do something bad.”
“Whatever it was, it wasn’t human.”
“So are we getting high, or what?”
“I’ll kill the asshole that did this to you.”
“It seems like you’ve done this before.”
“I have to be honest… this car is stolen.”
“What do you mean this isn’t your car?!”
“I shouldn’t have let you talk me into this.”
“What do you mean this isn’t your house?!”
“That’s… a lot of drugs you’ve got there.”
“Please tell me you brought a weapon with you.”
“We don’t have to do this, we can turn around.”
“How much time will they give us if we get caught?”
“Watch the door for me? I’ll be out in five minutes.”
“Maybe it’s the drugs, but I swear I heard someone…”
“This is literally the worst fucking time to hurt your leg!”
“Are you about to go do something illegal? Count me in.”
“The engine is dead and we’re in the middle of nowhere. Fucking great.”
