“Change of Scenery”
Peeking out from the alleyway shadows, the bandaged man checked his surroundings; observing the possibilities of being detected upon moving any further. It had been 37 hours since Otto left behind his former life as a medical doctor, but he was certain there would be a search party made for his sudden disappearance soon. A doctor gone missing after assaulting one his staff members into a coma would make headline news quickly.
“But it wasn’t my intention to harm them... or anyone! None of this would have had to happen if they had just-” Otto’s thoughts came to a stop upon feeling a cold drop of water. Then another, and another, until he felt several more droplets hit his body. The forecast had predicted a slight chance of rain occurring later in the evening, but the doctor didn’t expect it to happen for another few hours.
Surveying the area once more, Otto made a sprint towards a local diner across the street. With each step the rainfall became heavier to the point of soaking through doctor’s clothes. Reaching for the handle, Dr. Otto opened the diner door and shut it behind him. He was relieved to finally be inside a sheltered area away from the wet embrace of the outside, but felt a slight chill run down his body. “Wonderful. Wet clothes. Just fantastic...” He thought before making his way to an empty booth in the back of the diner. “I suppose this should be the least of my worries. For now, I need to lay low and plan my next route.” Otto pondered as he sat inside the booth. The uncomfortable feeling of his wet clothes making contact with the leather cushions of the booth sent another chill down his body.
“Maybe a new set of clothes should be my next priority...”
