Sometimes it's hard to listen. Maybe we don't like how something is expressed. Maybe the truth is hard to face. Let's be brave and open to listen and to take action. Birds: probably grackles. And probably in the middle of a mating ritual. I’m still quite new to birding, but it has brought me such joy and peace of mind, that I wish all people could enjoy it safely and respectfully. Feeling educated and inspired by @BlackAFinSTEM and their #BlackBirdersWeek. Thank you! I appreciate them inviting *everyone* to #postabird today and for putting a spotlight on people of color in the outdoors! I am painfully aware that in creating content and working with Happier Ambassadors for @happier_place, almost everyone I’ve been spotlighting has been Caucasian. It’s bugged me for a while, but it’s also embarrassed me bc most of my peers are white and I felt uncomfortable about that and about reaching out to strangers and seeming like an opportunist. So my next step after acknowledging this, is to overcome my shame and anxiety and seek out (more) people of color to be featured in Happier.Place articles, interviews and to become guest bloggers and Happier Ambassadors. I’m looking for recommendations. Obviously, nature does not belong to white people - but it seems time to make a real effort to ensure people of color feel welcome to share the wonder and happiness it brings. We all deserve to take a break in our #HappierPlace before we get back to whatever needs doing! (at Largo, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA6Anm4nuNK/?igshid=148trkrw4gmwc
