heres a funny thought that could be a branching bit (or alternative route) for the au. I think it be funny if technically there is a "cure" of sorts for the stage 2 and 3 folks (not a full one but will lower their stage by one so stage 2s will be 1s and stage 3 will be 2s but still keeping of some of the physical changes stage 3 did to some degree like you can't undo a fork tongue) the cure? hanging about with Idia and having some contact with his hair.. it can take weeks or even months depending how bad their stage is.. but like a hour of idia and just stuck using him as a campfire apparently does something for the guys (as weird as it maybe) though the biggest wall for them doing such things might just be their ego i would think and dealing with Idia's comments especially if hes in a gloating mood

They’re sorta like manifestations of stuff he’s still struggling with?? In a way that I’d describe as being like tarot upright/reversed meanings- so whatever they represent (ex: friendship) reflects turmoil in that department on Jamil’s side of things (ex: nonstop pushing Kalim away despite still seemingly caring to some degree abt the guy). They’re neat lil snakes though, often protecting him & looking after him. Unfortunately, they’re also taking a toll on his physical well-being, so in order for Jamil to actually get on the road towards recovery properly they kinda gotta… well. go. It’s okay though it’s quite literally what they would’ve wanted.

Also more in-depth vibes for each of the snakes:

Cobra: Self-preservation & security. Ties in to the whole [gestures vaguely] sorta throwing caution to the wind now that he's kinda 'ruined' his relationships & standing etc. (or. partially.)

Hognose: Friendship, platonic love & devotion. Thats the Kalim <3 and Jamil's complete refusal to acknowledge the fact that Maybe. Possibly. he might have Some positive feelings. at all.

Parrot snake: Trust, cooperation & synergy. Teamwork makes the dream work but this guy keeps deciding to take everything on himself.

Viper: Family, obviously. Obligatory last name mention. Ties in to the everything regarding like. his family's position & the relationships he has with them & the pressures his parents put on him etc etc

I love humans with scales!! Your ob Jamil is fantastic. Imagining him getting moody when he's in shed, maybe even having his eyes go blue??

Taking hot steamy baths to speed up the shed progress. Peeling it prematurely and hurting himself on accident. Trauma bonding with Vil whenever he's molting.

I like that you had him not eat the skin. That would make him feel too non-human. I think Kalim might try to steal shed when he can and put it in a little jar. Just because he's werid like that. I feel like he would also keep inscect molts (but he has to keep them in a drawer or Jamil will flip out)

ooo yea yea! i was literally just thinking about the behavioral impact- like even if he doesn't experience a full body shed (like- i don't even know if he has eye caps to worry about!) but the vulnerability & like.. embarrassment? that'd come with the whole process? would probably lead to a lot of the same behavioral changes

He'd totally try and peel it off early too 😭 god knows he'd get impatient/frustrated and try to rush through the process.

+ FOR SURE! i love creaturey aspects a ton but there's something to be said about striking a balance.

So I know you've mentioned Idia didn't get any lingering effects post blot BUT did you ever consider what would have happened to him if his curse didn't negate any effects and/or what stage he'd be at?

Definitely stage 3! Though I have been considering the wires from his OB form- the ones that connect him to Phantom!Ortho? They'd probably leave some scarring:

So! even though he doesn't have any of the usual postblot effects, there is that!

As far as what a proper stage 3 Idia would look like.. I'll probably be cooking up a stageswap post soon (so I can cover what some of the stage 1-2 charas would look like at stage 3!)
