Marcha contra la Ley de Tierras en la Ciudad de Córdoba
Emirate of Córdoba Triumphs at the Battle of Alhandic
On August 5, 939, the forces of the Emirate of Córdoba achieved a major victory at the Battle of Alhandic (also known as the Battle of Simancas/Alhandega campaign), defeating the Christian coalition led by King Ramiro II of León. The battle was part of a larger struggle between Muslim al-Andalus and the northern Christian kingdoms of Iberia.
The conflict followed the ambitious expansion of Ramiro II and his allies into Muslim territory. The forces of Caliph Abd al-Rahman III responded with a powerful military campaign, seeking to reassert Córdoba’s dominance. Although the wider campaign included several clashes, the fighting at Alhandic became a significant setback for the Christian forces.
The victory strengthened the prestige of Abd al-Rahman III, who had transformed Córdoba into one of the most powerful states in medieval Europe. The battle demonstrated the military strength of the Caliphate of Córdoba and reinforced the political influence of al-Andalus during its golden age.
