Alternate Poster Designs
In order to inform my designs, I have looked at other interpretations of my given films. I found this on the website Displate, where alternative posters are printed on metal plates and can be ordered online. (Unfortunately, I was unable to get higher resolution screenshots)
This alternate poster for Psycho has aimed for a vintage aesthetic, showing a thresholded still from the iconic shower scene. Underneath the image there is information on a cream coloured background adding to the aged look. The light purple and yellow compliment each other. This poster reminds me of the paint swatches you find in department stores, and how information is presented on those.
This black and white design for Donnie Darko creates a contrasting, bold design. The bunny costume is the most recognisable icon of the film. I like the fonts used for the title and director’s name. The splatters remind me of spray paint, and although digital, the inspiration of a stencil can be seen.
This poster for Saving Private Ryan is from the same collection than the Donnie Darko poster. The silhouettes of soldiers can be seen in front of the larger form in white, which we can interpret to be Ryan. The black could symbolise the inevitable death of most of this group. Again the same stencilled effect is used. I like the mix of hard and soft edges.
