Frozen posters : clearing things up
Disclaimer: I've added links because I strongly dislike posting information without a source, but that doesn't mean that you can go and ask questions to the people that I've mentioned. (especially those who work for WDS) I'm just posting this as a recap, so we can put the postergate aside and wait for Disney's next official statement about Frozen.
So here's a summary of what happened:
1. Cine1 posts some Frozen posters on their website.
2. They are reposted by trustworthy Disney fan-sites, such as Chronique Disney, Stitch Kingdom, The Rotoscopers, Inside The Magic, etc.
3. About 30 minutes to an hour later, all the images are removed from the above-mentioned sites. There's a quote from a Walt Disney Studios spokeswoman going around: “They didn’t come from us, so I just know that they aren’t official. Everyone will definitely know when we send something that is.”
4. Elsa C. on twitter, who works for Disney Animation, confirms the "characters are real" even though the "posters are fake" (she has since deleted the tweets due to an alarming number of questions coming her way)
5. David Gilson (who works for Disney Publishing) posts a forum "Ok, I can also say that the designs are not fake, the posters are obviously but the backgrounds are concept-arts."
Truly enough, the backgrounds are very similar to this little image:
This picture dates back to in April 2012, (thanks to Sotiris for finding it) we know is official because it has the old Frozen logo which was featured at an official French presentation that took place towards the end of 2012, where they talked about Disney's upcoming films:
So to sum it up : the character design is real -though not quite final- and the backgrounds are concept arts. Which means that what we are seeing is probably very close to what we are going to get.
Edit: we now know that the designs were indeed real, though not quite finished.
