Ngl I'm not a fan of how the anime is handling Remnan's storyline
And that's what I was fearing they'll do in the anime adaptation…
I get that so far we've only got 3 episodes with him and he'll (hopefully) be developed more but… why start with his past instead of showing who he is NOW as a character?
His trauma is not what defies him as a person, so wouldn't it have been SO MUCH MORE IMPACTFUL if we first got a whole episode with him, getting to know him better, before the Kukrushka incident, you know, how every other character had a whole episode when they were introduced (Otome was done dirty too btw, why introduce 3 new characters in one episode bruh).
The first episode Remnan appeared in he was a background character at best - all he did was sit under the table and was super invested in a game for like one minute. This was a Shigemichi/Stella event episode + Sha-Ming - a newly introduced character - got his fair share of screen time.
WE - people who played the game - know that Remnan is a nerd, a passionate mechanic, he loved his job, he finds repetitive actions comforting, he may be socially awkward but in the game when Sha-Ming was berating Otome Remnan still defended her, so he CAN stand up for someone, despite his timid personality. And how much of this would people who only watched the anime know BEFORE his most dramatic episode?
And then *sigh* episode 10 happened which made me even more upset.
Whyyyy WHY would you put this crucial piece of dialogue with "SQ" as a throwaway line when this episode ISN'T EVEN REMNAN FOCUSED? And worst of all - IN THE SLIME EPISODE??? WHEN HE GETS KILLED ON SCREEN SCREAMING IN FEAR AND PAIN? SO FIRST HE GETS MENTALLY TORTURED, THE ANIME DOESN'T ELEBORATE, AND THEN HE GETS PHYSICALLY TORTURED, GREAT DECISION GUYS. Also amazing move on Yuri's part seeing Remnan clearly in distress having a meltdown and her reaction is "Oh… k bye" 👍👍👍
In the game this line about "daddy" made Remnan go full panic mode to the extent that he fled the ship in fear, leaving everything behind. It was supposed to be a world-shattering moment for him, so why does the episode just moves on like nothing happened. Because the way it looks now it feels like they're just throwing everything traumatic that Remnan experienced like they don't have time to develop him first and they're just trying to cram it all in as fast as they can 💀
So yeah, horrid pacing for his character, which is so very upsetting since he's one of my favourite characters from the game
