Personal Project - Printing recap.
I have chosen to print with Loxley colour studios for the Graded Unit. I understand them to be easy to use and rather student friendly, as well as having time efficient options for delivery. I more often than not prefer to print photographs on matte paper, but felt that this may take away from the brilliant white seen in the entirety of my photographic sequence. As such, I have chosen to print on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl paper.
The pearl print is subtly textured and finished with a slight gloss. I was aiming for paper with not so much of a gloss that it could obstruct the view of the image, but instead enough that it could accentuate the whites within the photographs. I feel this choice will emphasise feeling in my sequence, and appears as a fine art finished piece as opposed to a photographic one.
As I intended to print with a one inch border on paper and my images are a very clean white, I opted to edit a thin black border onto my images before mounting them on paper. This was to distinguish the photographs edge from the printed paper border as well as draw the viewers eye to the centre of the page. Unfortunately, I’ve had some issue with Loxley studios concerning this detail. When I received my prints back from them, 4/5 of them were missing the top line of the black border I’d specified.
I have since sent them to be reprinted after being advised that the line may have been slightly too small for the printers to pick up, however I do not intend on printing with them for any further projects as the customer service I received was sub-par. Due to this, I can only pray that the corrected prints arrive on time.
