I feel like I wrote next to nothing this year, really, so this is a sad meme. On the other hand, including my Yuletide stories, I posted over 100k of fic, which I know I haven't done since I started actually keeping a spreadsheet of posts.
My best story this year: the unlocking and the lift away (Generation Kill, Brad/Ray)
The majority of this was written in 2015, which basically explains why I posted only 40k of fic that year, but I didn't have it ready to post until June of this year. I still can't believe I wrote 60k of Brad/Ray, which is my shOwTP but I just love Nate Fick so much that I usually only want to write fic about him.
My favorite story of this year: part-time wonder (Generation Kill, Nate/...everyone? Kind of?)
I enjoyed writing this weird mess, most of which was also written in 2015, but I feel like this is lacking in hits compared to the rest of my Generation Kill fic. Not to complain, necessarily, but I wonder what keeps people away. The odd premise? That it's tagged Nate/Mike, or the mildly dubious consent tag?
Most fun story to write: one star at a time because I got to watch relaxing ASMR massage videos for research (not that I wouldn't watch them anyway). Sadly, Jack Eichel later proved himself to be a douchebag after the election, so I will not be writing any further fic for this pairing.
Story with the single sexiest moment: Personally, I would go with will the universe last forever except now I can't look at Cody Bass when he's playing without wondering if he actually manscapes.
Story that got the most unexpected reaction from readers: "will the universe last forever" got a lot of "I don't even know these dudes but I read this anyway!" comments - ah, hockey RPF fandom, always willing to read fic about guys they don't know. Then there was the commenter on Extra Blue Sky who insisted I'd used the wrong words, which - ??????
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: None of the things I wrote this year were wrong even for me, LOL.
Most "Holy crap, that's weird, even for you" story: "part-time wonder" was probably the weirdest thing I wrote this year but it definitely wasn't weird-for-me-weird. Maybe my goal for 2017 should be to write something definitely weird!
Hardest story to write: There were definitely some bits in "the unlocking and the lift away" that I struggled through the rough draft versions of because the story needed them to be complete but I was not excited about writing them.
Biggest surprise: YULETIDE! Since it's not reveals yet I won't say the fandom but honestly I'm so excited that this year I got to finally write the post-movie story I've been wanting to write for this fandom for the last sixteen years. And I'm glad I wrote it now, because I never would have written a 21k story sixteen years ago - I think back then I was excited to do more than just a couple thousand.
Most unintentionally telling story: Hmm, I'm not sure I wrote one of those this year.
1. Your main fandom of the year? Definitely did not have one.
2. Your favourite film watched this year? I looked through all the 2016 wide release movies and realized that for someone who thinks they go to the movies a lot, I only saw sixteen new release movies this year as of this posting. There were more that I wanted to see that I just didn't get to. So of what I saw, I probably enjoyed Keeping Up with the Joneses and The Accountant the most. [ETA: SAW ROGUE ONE. OH MY GOD BEST. AND SADDEST.]
3. Your favourite book read this year? This year I only finished about five books, because for someone who does enjoy reading, I am terrible at books because I get so distracted by the internet existing. Celeste Ng's Everything I Never Told You took a while to really get into, but the ending was SO GOOD and I'm contemplating getting my own copy so I can re-read it whenever I want. I also read most of the short story collection that Arrival is from - Ted Chiang's "Stories of Your Life" and the stories were all very interesting sci-fi.
4. Your favourite TV show of the year? I don't watch enough television to answer this question and I don't have even basic cable. I did finish the first season of Gotham the other day, and I re-watched the first season of The Killing earlier this year. I bet those were the only full seasons of anything I watched besides the episodes of Columbo I watch to fall asleep.
5. Your favourite online fandom community of the year? Pass.
6. Your best new fandom discovery of the year? Pfft. I tried to find a new fandom and failed miserably and just ended up writing in my old fandoms again.
7. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? The "antis" on tumblr are a definite WTF. I saw someone try to say that a large age gap between ADULTS - adults, not 'one of them is maaaaaaybe a minor', actual grown-up adults - was pedophilia. Wow. Please get a dictionary or perhaps the DSM-5.
9. Your TV girlfriend of the year? Pass.
10. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Well, this was supposed to be this YouTube video but I can’t figure out how to embed it so whatever.
11. The most missed of your old fandoms? ALL OF THEM? A lot of my twitter friends are still in hockey, and the rest watched Voltron (if you like your fandom with a main course of drama, that fandom is it) and then Yuri on Ice, and I feel like I'm over here in my corner unable to find anything to really get into.
12. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to? I want to watch Supergirl and probably at least S2 of Gotham (even though I care mostly about Alfred and Bruce, and then Jim, and not about the organized crime stuff at all) - I kind of want to write a S1 story where Alfred has Bruce's name on his wrist and that's basically Alfred's raison d'etre, and that relationship is completely platonic and Alfred bones Jim Gordon instead. (I'm really into Jim/Alfred but there's so little of it that's good!)
I have a couple DCEU plotbunnies that I'm messing around with but I feel like there's a big leap there for me to take when it comes to actually writing and finishing them? It's lonely writing in a fandom none of your friends are in, even when they're still willing to read it for you.
I also have some in-progress Bond stories I haven't given up on yet.
13. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Ooooh, I'm sure Justice League is going to be somewhat bad but I'm stoked for that and Wonder Woman. I'm hoping WW is amazing, because so far it looks like it will be amazing. Also excited to cry through all of Logan in March! I have cried through the trailer twice now.
Other 2017 releases that might be interesting: Skull Island, the Guy Richie King Arthur, Fast & Furious 8 (what whaaaaaaaaaaat Charlize Theron), The Lost City of Z, maybe The Circle for John Boyega, Alien: Covenant (yes I am going to be so scared to watch it in the theater but I will go anyway), possibly Life (SPACE MOVIE), the new Kingsman, The Beguiled (Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman!!), the Dark Tower movie, The Snowman, the new Thor (yes Tessa Thompson!!), and of course the new Star Wars (Tom? Hardy? Is? There? IS HE BAD?).
