Here's the S A U C E for anyone else looking to turn the Nether into Hell and/or blast some blocky demons.
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/mcdoom
There's a Forge version and a Fabric version. As shown on the main page art, you'll need the GeckoLib and Curios API mods to play it.
GekcoLib: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/geckolib
Curios API: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/curios
The Curios API link in this post is specifically for the Forge version, btw. There's a link on the page to the Fabric version if you use that instead of Forge. Or, you know, if you use both interchangeably.
AAAAAAAAAANYWAYYYYYYY
le steps of ze installation for da forge version of mcdoom (I use Windows 10, but hopefully someone can help me update this post later with an installation guide for if you use a Mac)
1. Download and install the version of Forge that corresponds to the version of the mod you want to play- in my case, I went for Forge 1.17.1 since I'm using the 1.17 version of MCDoom. The process is super-simple, just open the installer and it'll guide you through the process. Once it's done installing that version of Forge, you'll be able to find it under the little installations tab in the Minecraft launcher on the left side of your screen.
2. Download the appropriate versions of the Forge versions of GeckoLib and the Curios API. Simple enough.
3a. Now you need to get into the mods folder of your copy of Minecraft. I recommend that you go ahead and open up your file explorer thing and head into the downloads section.
3b. Once you've done that, open up your start menu, click on the little magnifying glass to open up search, and type "Run". The app simply called "Run" should be the first result.
3c. Open this up, and type %appdata%\.minecraft into the little bar, or just copy-paste it from this post to that bar. Once it's in, just click OK and poof! It'll open up the appdata for Minecraft!
4. Now that you're in there, open up the folder labelled "mods" and then, this is my personal recommendation, select your downloads of MCDoom, GeckoLib, and the Curios API, and cut-and-paste them into the mods folder. I recommend using the CTRL-X shortcut for this.
5. If this is your first time modding your copy of Minecraft, there shouldn't be anything else in there you need to deal with, but if this isn't your first time modding your Minecraft copy, make sure there aren't any mods for other versions of Minecraft in there first.
6. Now if you've got all that in the mods folder, you should be good to select the appropriate Forge version instance in the launcher's installation selector and hit play, and bada-bing, bada-boom! You got yourself some modded Minecraft featuring MCDoom!
