Am I too late for soup discourse? Speak of your favorites, in no particular order.

It is never too late for soup discourse. In no particular order:

Clam chowder. This and homemade bread and candles was a Christmas Eve tradition in my house growing up. It’s my ur holiday flavor, because it makes me feel like I’m about to get some pajamas and a book as an early present, and my mom was so happy to build the whole night for us.

Late-night cold chicken and ramen noodles pulled from the package. Add some broth and anything green and aromatic you have. Season and eat desperately. Is that Chicken soup?

All the chili variations, the stew family. That is a welcoming family, where you can contribute and tuck in like the shiny goblin you know you really are. I’m partial to black beans and chorizo, but I’m also super into using every living thing available.

We once made a lobster cream bisque that was based on a carrot-ginger soup, and that gave me years of mouth-sex memories.
