I don't know why they suntan nails
thanks to misheard lyrics, whenever someone sings Yellow Ledbetter correctly and coherently, it sounds wrong.
:\
still hilarious to me <3
My dad comes in and tells me "I talked to Eddie Vedder today on the phone" like he does it every day.
A truck driver stopped off at his job, and my dad asked him "You look lost there buddy, can I help you out?"
The guy goes "Yeah, just a little. Moved up to Ohio from Seattle."
My dad being the smartass he is, says "Oh, Pearl Jam eh?" Just joking around with the guy.
The guy responds "I grew up with Eddie, drove their bus and toured with them for a while."
My dad responds "Get the fuck out of here." "Nope" the dude says, as he starts pulling out his cell phone, scrolling down his contacts. Sure enough, his number was in there.
"You want to talk to him?" and of course, my dad says "HELL YEAH!"
"Hey Eddie. I've got a dude that wants to talk to you." And hands my dad the phone.
My dad says he jawwed it up with him for about 10 minutes, talked to him how his sons (Beenee and I) got him into his music, how much he liked his music, and so on.
Then my dad starts laughing.
Eddie asked my dad what he was laughing at, and my dad goes "Potato Wave." (x)
Eddie goes "You've fucking seen that too?" My dad responds "It's the fucking funniest shit in the world."
Eddie said "I've always heard if someone makes fun of you, it's the biggest form of flattery. I thought it was hilarious when I seen it too."
SMALL WORLD, HUH.
Classic YouTube: Potato Wave
Lellow Ledbetter
Aren't some things funny, like, after the fact? Like "Dick in a Box," I feel like that was something that was funnier /after/ I saw it, when, days later, I realized I had the song in my head. And "potato wave," that's a reference to a misheard "Yellow Ledbetter" (Pearl Jam) lyrics YouTube video someone showed me months ago. And it's only now resurfaced in my memory. I actually think "potato wave" is the only part that embedded itself into my memory. I can't recall any of the other lyrics. But, I just watched it again. And that made me want to write down what I've always heard as the words to "Yellow Ledbetter." Knowing there's no "real" lyrics, and they change, anyway. The version I'm referring to here is the studio version.
Note: I use a couple nonsense words or syllables. And grammatically incorrect sentences, or sentences that don't mean anything. I mean, when I'm singing this song, I'm like, in the car by myself, so I've got no one to impress.
YELLOW LEDBETTER
Unsealed, On a porch a letter sat. The he said, "I wanna leave it again."
Wanders all him On a beach of weather horses Nona said, "I wanna leave it again." On the way there, On a wish it on a well And a coal miner said And a coal miner said Never go out again
And a wayside On a leave I call my own
I said, I don't wanna live in a box or a bag. Oh yeah, can you see them out on the porch? Yeah. But they don't wave. I see them 'round o' my way yeah and i know and i know i don't wanna stay
baby cry.

ooooh i did oh i don't know, but it's something else. on a coal mine, on away i said "i don't -- i don't know where there's a box or a bag." oh yeah... can you see them out on the porch? yeah. but they dont wave. i see them 'round of my way yeah and i know and i know i don't wanna stay at all i don't wanna stay i don't wanna stay i don't wanna stay i don't... noooo
yeah
oooooooh oooooooooooooooOOOoooooh
[mike mccready guitar solo outtro]
My own alternate versions of some of the lines are,
"I don't know whether it's a box or a bag."
And just a couple things not really worth noting. cuz this is taking me too long, and i just gotta be done!
