On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night
Sam was driving down the dark desert highway after finishing up at the library. Dean was waiting for him back at the motel so they could figure out what they were hunting. People were disappearing at this place called the Hotel California and were never heard from again. Dean was ready to charge in with guns blazing, but Sam was more hesitant. It sounded a lot like the Mystery Spot he had been trapped in with Gabriel and Sam wasn’t sure if he could watch Dean die a thousand more times. He suddenly became aware that he wasn’t alone in the Impala.
“Hello, Sam.” A voice said next to him.
Sam slammed on the brakes. “What the hell?!”
Gabriel smirked. “That’s no way to great your favorite archangel.”
“What do you want, Gabriel?” Sam asked after pulling onto the side of the road.
The archangel became serious. “I need your help.”
“You?” Sam scoffed. “You need help?”
“This isn’t funny, Samuel.” He growled. “There’s a life at stake.”
Sam looked at him. “Who’s?”
“You’ll see.” He whispered. “We need to go to the Hotel California.”
“Is it one of your Mystery Spots?” Sam questioned. “I’m not going through another one of those.”
“I thought we had fun last time.” Gabriel joked. “However, this is not one of my creations. It seems Lucifer has been copying my tricks.”
“Why?” Sam asked while heading for the hotel.
“He’s looking for someone and once he’s realizes they’re there…” He paused. “It won’t end well.”
Sam pulled in and parked in front of the hotel. “Why don’t you just pop in and grabbed them?”
“I wish it was that easy.” The angel chuckled. “Lucifer has made it to where I’m powerless if I enter alone. However, if I walk in with someone who can break the sigils then I can enter freely.”
“So, you’re pretty much using me?” Sam stated.
“To an extent.” Gabriel shrugged. “You’ll understand soon enough.”
Sam and Gabriel climbed out of the Impala and Gabriel stopped at the end of the hood.
“This is as far as I can go.” He stated. “I’m powerless if I walk in there.”
“So, what do I need to do?” Sam asked. “Where is the sigil?”
“The sigil is in the banquet hall where they gather to feast.” He informed him. “You’ll have to be quick, Samuel.”
“It’s Sam.” He corrected him. “Why?”
“You’ll start slipping away like the people in there. There’s a reason the Eagles wrote a song about it.” Gabriel explained. “You’ll understand once you’re in there.”
Sam started walking towards the door before turning around. “Who am I looking for?”
“Trust me.” Gabriel called. “You’ll know.”
There she stood in the doorway; I heard the mission bell And I was thinking to myself 'This could be heaven or this could be Hell' Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Sam turned back around and walked into the hotel. As he stepped through the door he heard the bell announce his presence. A girl appeared in the lobby and Sam gasped when he realized who he was looking for.
“Y/N?” He asked slowly.
“Yes.” She smiled. “Can I help you?”
“It’s me, Sam Winchester.” He said.
“Do I know you?” She asked.
“Yeah.” Sam nodded. “We’ve been friends for years.”
“I’m sorry.” She apologized. “I don’t know you.”
“How long have you been here?” He asked.
“A few days.” She answered.
“I don’t know if this is Heaven or Hell.” Sam muttered to himself.
Y/N lit a candle. “Follow me, Sam. I’ll show you the hotel.”
Sam followed her down the hallways as he tried to think of a plan. He passed a few people who greeted him.
“Welcome to the Hotel California.” An older lady smiled.
“It’s such a lovely place.” Her husband added.
“There’s plenty of room.” Y/N told him. “Any time of year.”
She led Sam out to a courtyard where there were several couples dancing and a band playing on stage.
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
“Y/N, you have to leave.” Sam told her.
“Why?” She questioned. “I like it here.”
“Gabriel sent me to get you.” Sam explained. “You aren’t safe here.”
“I’m perfectly fine here, thank you very much.” She scoffed. “I have everything I need.”
Sam sighed. “Your mind is Tiffany-twisted.”
A large group of guys passed by her and asked questions about her Mercedes Bends. She laughed and brushed them off.
“Who are they?” Sam pondered.
“Just friends.” She laughed. “Relax, Sam. Live a little. Some of us dance to remember while others dance to forget.”
“I’m take it you dance to forget.” Sam attempted to joke.
She shrugged. “I don’t know why I dance.”
So I called up the Captain, 'Please bring me my wine' He said, 'we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty-nine' And still those voices are calling from far away, Wake you up in the middle of the night Just to hear them say" Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place (such a lovely place) Such a lovely face. They livin' it up at the Hotel California What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise), bring your alibis
She led Sam back through the hotel and yelled to her friends. “Please bring me my wine.”
One of the guys laughed. “We haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty-nine. What are you celebrating?”
“A friend from the past.” She joked and nudged Sam.
Sam could still hear people whispering as they passed by. He just wanted to get to the banquet hall before his memory started to fade.
“Welcome to the Hotel California.” One whispered.
Another passed by. “It’s such a lovely place.”
“We’re livin’ it up at the Hotel California!” A guy shouted from the courtyard.
“What a nice surprise.” Y/N laughed. “I’d bring an alibi if I were you.”
“Let’s look at the banquet hall.” Sam suggested as his mind became sluggish. He had been in too long. He needed to hurry.
Mirrors on the ceiling, The pink champagne on ice And she said, 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device' And in the master's chambers, They gathered for the feast They stab it with their steely knives, But they just can't kill the beast
She smirked knowing what was happening to Sam. She pulled him into the master’s chambers. There were mirrors on the ceiling and a bucket of pink champagne on ice.
“Why don’t you leave?” Sam asked Y/N.
“We’re all just prisoners here, of our own device.” She said with a somber tone. “We came to forget our past and to live in safe place.”
“You’re not safe here.” Sam urged her.
“Why not?” She stopped.
“Gabriel said Lucifer was after you.” He stated.
“Lucifer?” She scoffed. “Are you high or something? Lucifer isn’t real.”
“Y/N, you’re a hunter like me.” He told her.
She shook her head. “Maybe in another life. I have no clue who you are or what you’re talking about.”
Sam heard a growl and his head snapped up. There was a beast at the end of the table with a large sigil painted on it. Everyone seemed oblivious to the creature.
“Y/N, what do you see at the end of the table?” He asked.
Her head tilted to the side. “There’s nothing there, Sam. Why?”
“I know how to get you out.” He said quickly while pulling his knife out. “Stay here and wait for me.”
The beast was blurring between visible and transparent and Sam knew once it disappeared he was stuck here. He approached it carefully before striking. He tried stabbing it with his steely knife, but it didn’t kill the beast. The creature launched itself at Sam and he dived behind the table. He didn’t need to kill the beast. He just needed to break the sigil so Gabriel could get in. Sam jumped at the beast and sliced across the sigil. Sparks flew and Sam hit the wall.
“Let’s go!” Gabriel suddenly yelled.
Sam grabbed Y/N while Gabriel finished off the beast.
Last thing I remember, I was Running for the door I had to find the passage back to the place I was before 'Relax' said the night man, 'We are programmed to receive. You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!'
Sam busted through the door with Y/N close behind him. Without questioning, Y/N jumped in the passenger seat and Sam gunned it out of the parking lot.
“What the hell was that?!” She yelled.
“An archangel saving us.” Sam informed her.
“Archangel?” She asked. “Dude, what are you talking about?”
Sam sighed. “I’ll let Gabriel explain it.”
Sam hoped Gabriel could fix her. Sam continued to the motel and parked in front of their door.
“Come on.” He said. “We’ll wait for Gabriel here.”
She didn’t say anything as she followed Sam to the door. Sam unlocked it and pushed the door open.
“I’m back, Dean!” He announced.
“About time.” Dean said while walking out of the bathroom. “Where have you been?”
“Gabriel needed some help.” Sam laughed.
That’s when Dean noticed who was Sam. “Y/N? Is that you?”
“Yeah. I guess I know you too.” She half-heartedly laughed.
“You don’t remember me?” He questioned.
“She doesn’t remember anything.” Sam sighed. “She doesn’t remember being a hunter.”
“What happened?” Dean asked.
“She was in the Hotel California.” Gabriel announced when he popped in.
“Oh.” Dean said.
Gabriel filled Dean in while Sam watched Y/N. She looked confused and Sam didn’t blame her.
“What’s the last thing you remember?” Sam asked her.
“I was running for the door.” She said. “I had to find a way out and the night man told me to relax. The Hotel California was made to receive. He said I could check out any time I liked, but I could never leave.”
“That’s why everyone seemed so out of it.” Gabriel explained. “It’s easier to submit to it than to fight it.”
“Can you fix her?” Sam asked.
“Yes.” Gabriel nodded. “It might shock her system though. She’ll remember everything including her time in the hotel.”
“Do it.” She stated. “I want to remember.”
Gabriel nodded and placed two fingers on her forehead. A white light emitted and she gasped before grabbing her head.
“Y/N?!” They called.
“I’m fine.” She breathed.
She looked up and Sam helped her sit on the bed.
“Thanks.” She whispered.
“No problem.” Sam said. “How do you feel?”
“Fine. Just a massive headache.” Y/N nodded.
“It’s good to have you back.” Gabriel smiled.
“What does Lucifer want with me?” Y/N asked Gabriel.
“He hasn’t said, but I know it’s nothing good.” Gabriel sighed.
“So, you’re stuck with us until we find out.” Dean poked her shoulder.
“I’m cool with that.” She laughed.
“Until then…” Gabriel disappeared.
The radio turned on and The Eagles filled the room. Sam and Y/N lunged to turn it off.
“I like that song!” Dean whined.
“There’s a reason the Eagles wrote that song.” Y/N stated.
“No more Eagles.” Sam added.
Dean huffed. “Whatever.”
