Okay so it’s not Tuesday anymore BUT I was tagged by the absolutely lovely @allwaswell16 to do this, so I thought I’d share some stuff about the recent fic I did for @potterdirectionficexchange! :)
This was the first fic I wrote for the 1D fandom, and honestly, it was terrifying, but I got the most perfect prompt! Harry Potter is my absolute favourite thing, and when I saw that my prompt involved florist Harry, I was so excited. I used to be a florist, so it was honestly more than I could’ve hoped for.
The first thing I decided on was having a different flower for each chapter, and I just used my favourite flowers that I’ve used throughout my floristry career. Weaving the flowers into the story was one of my favourite parts of the whole thing, but it was a complete accident when I realised that the meanings of each flower suited the feel of the chapters and the fic overall. I was stupidly happy when I realised that, so I had to include a lil’ something in the story about it!
I originally had Louis’ job as a teacher, but whenever I tried to write about him, it just wasn’t working. I played around with a few careers, and when i stumbled across him as an editor, it allowed me to add in the whole dimension of him editing fantasy books, which let me add a bit more to help him along. My sister’s an editor as well, so she was helping me out with terminology and office etiquette.
The main thing I wanted with the fic was to make sure it actually wasn’t too magical, which sounds a bit ridiculous for a Harry Potter AU. I wanted the magical elements of Harry’s life and the shop to just fit in seemlessly without the fic being fantastical, and I think that I managed it!
I originally only planned for the fic to be about 20-30K, but I found that I couldn’t stop once I started! It turned into a monster of a thing, and to be honest, I’m really proud of how it came out.
Without giving away any lil’ spoilers, Steve’s character became what it was completely out of the blue as I was writing it. It wasn’t planned at all, but I’m really glad I put it in.
This fic ABSOLUTELY would not have happened without @thedaggerrose, who listened to me vent and complain and stress and when I gave chapters later than I said and when I changed a million things. She completely made this fic possible, and I am eternally grateful and love her so much 💕 a massive shoutout to @hi-larrie-ous as well, who helped me with a ridiculous amount of writer’s block and gave me feedback.
