Tom Rolt was definitely an interesting person, though I must say, this small passage of his writings is genuinely quite inspiring to me. Quite a poetic description for a pottery oven of all things.
The fact that he was against a lot of the mechanised and industrial aspects of what the world was becoming at the time is also a rather interesting aspect of his character.
Especially as he is known quite widely for his contributions to preserving the kind of machines (steam engines) that were once one of the main players in the industrialisation and gradual urbanisation of Britain.
