An engine like me looks nice in red. That’s quite true. But what if I was blue?

Some SKR dividers, with the engines arranged both in numerical order and by color. Sprites are from the DS game きかんしゃトーマス DSではじめる知育学習 / Thomas the Tank Engine: Intellectual Educational Learning for DS
hello friendly reminder that you do not need a special occasion to use nice things! if you wait long enough your nice bath bomb won't be as fizzy! your favourite fruits will go out of season! candles are meant to be burned, not looked at! you're not enjoying your special tea if it's just sitting in your cupboard! you're allowed to have nice and special things on completely ordinary days! heck, it might just make that day special!!

this shit genuinely helps me I’m not even joking I thank god everyday for this post
"Nancy turned in surprise. A group of people had quietly come to listen while Skarloey told her his story."
I can't believe I never posted this here! I illustrated this scene from Crosspatch last year in honor of the 80th Anniversary. It was for an art collab, and Very Old Engine's was the book I was assigned!
There was always something about this scene that stuck out to me for some reason... maybe it was the quiet humanity of gathering together to hear a story from an elder, but the cool cultural aspect of the TTTE universe is that the elder might be a machine which has lived for a century.
I find that very cool. That a group of people can gather around a train (which may not even sound all that old) and listen to it tell stories from a time before you were even born.
I can decide that broken engines aren’t just “little things.”
wow we finally got a new printer earlier than i was expecting!!!
Anyways here's me drawing the same things over and over and over AND OVER AND OVER
AND OVER
again.
Images differ in brightness/temperature because i was playing with adjustments between scans
ive been neglecting my spacecrafts too much :((((((( my silly,,,,,
actually fucking disgusting that glasses cost any money like if you actually think about it for more than a few seconds it is so unconscionably inhumane. this goes for things like insulin and mobility aids and hearing aids too ofc but fuck man, fucking glasses? the thing you need to fucking see? its genuinely sickening and inhumanly evil that those cost ANYTHING.
A Furness Railway K1 Class, otherwise known as a Seagull :) These striking little guys were the predecessors of the larger K2 Class, aka the Larger Seagulls (Like Edward!) Thought it would be fun to draw one!
Bertie the Bus loves the wide open fields and the long stretching roads.
Xenonite Steam Locomotive
Erid has a thick atmosphere, iirc it's 27x greater than 0.4atm, so 10 atm of pressure. This makes the efficiency of a steam engine go into the absolute dirt. However, xenonite, even in hexagonal prism form, can withstand vastly greater pressures. Want hundreds of atmospheres of pressure in the boiler? That can be arranged. So the efficiency can probably be enough that it's worth doing.
I'm not sure what fuels the loco, but their technological civilization almost certainly requires fire for the invention of metallurgy, so I am imagining an oxygen-rich 'fuel' source that's the Eridian equivalent of petroleum products.
Of course an astrophage powered locomotive is certainly a possibility, but I'm sure they must have had vehicles before then.
The cab doesn't need windows!
The boiler doesn't need to be cylindrical, xenonite can handle it, but the steam-cylinders have a lot of potential wear issues so they're made of eridian steel and are made cylindrical. The wheels and rails are made of steel as well--if the rails were too hard they'd be too slippery to have any traction.
The valve gear is gesturing towards being a caprotti poppet/cam valve gear.
The loco has a big deep whistle that sounds great to Eridians.
