✨Power mapping✨ is how organizers stop guessing and start intervening. Most political outcomes are shaped long before a vote happens. Decisions are made in staff rooms, in budget drafts, donor networks, and regulatory agencies. These are decisions that are often institutionally obfuscated or gate-kept.
When people say “I care about politics but don’t know where to start,” this is one of the first frameworks that comes to mind (and is especially important to share for folks who may feel unsure of where to start)
I learned it through studying at University of California, Los Angeles and the London School of Economics as well as being in the field as a city gov staffer—because once you see how power flows, you can’t unsee it.
Save this! I will likely make additional carousels for folks who would like to learn how decisions actually get made at the local level. More carousels to come y’all! #politics
