It's hot.
It's 6:51 AM and 84*F out. "Do you think she's coming?" I ask between a sip of coffee. "Maybe she is sleeping still?" suggests Karden. "On the first day?" We wait a few more minutes then Andy, Karden, Chung and I head up to the packing house. Elly sends Andy back to wake up Lea and Karden, Chung, and I start cleaning crates. When Andy returns Lea is sent to work with us and Karden leaves to clean the remaining rooms from the other day with Andy. They finish up and grab us at 9 to go eat. After breakfast Elly isn't around so all 5 of us start cleaning crates. With 5 we start tearing through pallets and it actually looks like we might finish all of them today.
Elly comes back and says 2 of us need to sweep and then mop the entire warehouse. I don't want to do it but I'm glad to have avoided the room cleaning nightmare so I volunteer and Andy does too. Between two of us it's not so bad but even though we're not in the direct sun it gets so damn hot in there. Midway through I have to take my shirt off and sweat is beading on my skin. After about 3 hours Andy and I finish sweeping (which he keeps calling brooming) and then Mohammad whistles me over and shows me how to use the powermop/floor buffer. Andy heads back out to clean crates and I power mop for a bit then head to lunch where I steal 2 red plums for later.
After lunch I get back on the powermop which is a pretty cool device except it pulls hard to the right so by the end of the day my right forearm is completely sore from correcting it. Elly motions me over and tells me "The guys outside are almost done. Do you want to stay or go home with them?" I'm pretty sure this is a trick question but I take the bait. At 3 I head outside and they've just finished cleaning all the crates. ALL OF THE CRATES. I'm almost sad I wasn't there to finish it off but I've enjoyed the variety of the sweeping and mopping. We head back to the Oasis except Andy has to stay for a little bit to clean the bathroom. I can't help but think it was my decision to leave that put him there, Karden, Lea, and I head straight to the pool to cool off. It's 104* and it will climb to 108* over the next few hours.
After the pool I drop by the market to pick up a cucumber, a tomato, an onion, and a cold coke. I start up another episode of The Venture Bros. The Venture Bros. is an Adult Swim cartoon and is probably my favorite TV show of all time. I have yet to find a show with as much wit and ingenuity. Ventures Bros ran 4 fantastic seasons until 2010 and then stopped all of a sudden. On June 2, 2013 they premiered season 5 so last night I downloaded up through episode 7 and I'm starting to play catch up. Season 5 Episode 5 leaves me smiling and I actually say "Wow" out loud to myself when the credits role.
Another thing that happened last night is that one of the fans in my computer broke. I can hear its pathetic and futile whirring as it tries to spin before giving up. I don't know if its the main fan or the GPU fan but either way it's causing some serious problems. To watch Venture Bros I have to stand on my bed and hold my computer up to the AC set on 22* C to keep the video running. Even just typing this I have to stop and cool it down in front of the AC every paragraph or so.
I wonder what we'll do tomorrow since there's no more crates. I have a little bit of the floor left to buff but only an hour or so. My guess is that we'll start building more cardboard boxes for the dates but who knows. There could be 20 more pallets of crates waiting for us. The warehouse is definitely starting to come together and it'll be date season soon. Hopefully tonight I can finally get that game of Catan going but there doesn't really seem to be that much interest other than from Boris. Not a very exciting post, I know.
Shalom!
