May be stupid, but who is The Gambler?
You are Not stupid, that is a valid question!
The Gambler is a Mysterious CrossRoads Demon whose domain lies in the ring of Greed. He appears as a shadowy male figure with a brimmed hat that casts shadows on his face, a deep sultry voice, a charming smile, and jaundice-yellow eyes.
He is the Original Deal Maker. He comes to the mortal world to offer humans boons in exchange for their souls. What he does with these souls is unknown... does he break them down into spirit energy and drink them up to make himself stronger? Does he turn them into gold to fuel his empire? Or do they become his eternal servants in his Casino?
Adonis (my rewritten Alastor) sold his soul to the Gambler in exchange for power - in his case, power over fortune, and power in the afterlife. He didn't believe he was actually selling his soul at the time (Adonis did not believe in the supernatural for most of his mortal life) and only agreed because he could sense that The Gambler was a dangerous man, and he just wanted to make it home alive.
Once his debt was due in Hell, Adonis asked if there was anything he could do to reclaim his mortal soul - to which The Gambler replied,
"666. Give me 666 souls of the damned, and you'll be off scott-free. I cannot promise you a way out of Hell, but your soul will be yours."
"Deal"
Adonis does not speak of his Deal or the Gambler. It is his closest kept secret. He keeps an exact tally of how many souls he has on loan (he only owns them until he cashes out all 666) but it's helpful that the number of souls he has left to go is etched on his palm in glowing letters. His kid gloves hide this, and he never takes them off in front of others.
Feel free to ask more questions :)
