hyrule snap is of course the hit new video game for nintendo switch that has swept the globe to almost universal acclaim. @nightpool and @ot3 wanted to see some of my "nature photography" (part 2 here)
I would consider these 'perfect' animal shots; they're high contrast and there's even more than one animal in the larger shot for most of them. I spent an hour of in-game time staked out to get the arowana leaping
these are shots I like but will retake at some point to get bigger or with higher contrast. you are rewarded by physically getting close to your quarry--one thing totk did is actually reduce the 'resolution' of your photos as you zoom in. I have a lot of very zoomed-in bird pics with 'pixels' the size of a man
these are likewise perfect monster shots. note the octorok's projectile about to clock me clean upside the head
these monster pics will get reshot but I really like the poses I got. the wheezing wizzrobe who just needs a second. the top ten anime moments before black moblin disaster. the boss boko with his ducklings is funny to me; I just have to get the picture physically closer and on a sunnier day (hyrule doesn't have a real golden hour, either)
bonus: I like to shoot equipment in situ when possible. local twink jailed for taking creepshots, claimed 'was just trying to get a good angle on the gerudo scimitar'
got home from traveling and my commission of lawyerswap trucy from @zoejayw @ot3 had arrived! I am gonna frame it. I like it SO much. please give zoe your money whenever possible
CHOTINER: So it was last night when you would say you felt a cosmic connection to your Korean heritage?
ME: Yes. When I was heating up the rice. When I was heating up the fried rice with chili oil and egg, and thought to myself "I should melt some cheese into this." I feel like it was at that moment that something had truly shifted inside of me.
CHOTINER: So you admit that your understanding of your Korean identity is inextricably tied to the persistent influence of American GIs, e.g. on the Korean diet.
ME: It would be disingenuous to suggest otherwise.
CHOTINER: Do you have a hard time conceiving of modern Korean identity in the absence of U.S. imperialism?
with @courtyardhound's recent scholarship I think I am firmly concluding that esports au and, to a lesser degree, esports behavior is a juicy yet underexplored space in all sorts of fandom. jununy's seminal work regarding terezi and vriska on team troll solo mid was a bountiful start but we can and should go deeper. achilles is just apdo. wei wuxian is a roleswap jungle main. gilgamesh plays top but not respectfully. like m5 darien. or dyrus in that one game. yjh is already faker but with a better jawline. jean valjean is rick fox
BEST HAMANTASCHEN FILLING POLL: RESULTS (Happy Pollrim!)
The results of this poll are in! As a professional statistician (they really pay me!) and data viz expert, let me disclaim: a pie chart -- even a deluxe exploded one like this -- is almost never the right choice of figure for your data. Make sure to only use it for unordered qualitative data describing proportions of a whole - a bar chart is usually the better option for everything else, such as opinions polled by Likert (strongly agree, agree, etc), binary responses, anything where you can vote for more than one option, or raw numbers. Despite how ubiquitous media would have you believe they are, pie charts are mostly bad for analysis.
Happy Purim!

[ID: A figure consisting of two pie charts, together graphically representing the results of a Tumblr poll asking respondents for their favorite hamantaschen filling. The title of the figure is "5783 Hamantaschen Tumblr Poll Results: Hamantaschart". Each slice of the pies are filled with an image of the filling in question, such as images of apricots in the apricot slice. The slices are also labeled with their names and percentages. The first chart represents 91% of results: Raspberry at 23%, Apricot at 21%, Poppyseed at 15%, Chopped nuts at 7%, Pomegranate at 6%, Cherry at 6%, Strawberry at 6%, Blackberry at 5%, and Mango at 4%. A slice labeled "Other (did not specify)" represents 3% of the chart and is filled by an image of Among Us. A slice labeled Other, representing 6%, explodes into the second pie chart. The second pie chart contains Chocolate at 2.59%, Lekvar/Prunes at 0.86%, Nutella at 0.96%, Apple at 0.48%, Lemon curd at 0.29%, and the following all at 0.1% each: Dates, Halva, Marmalade, Birthday Cheesecake, Nougat, and Quince. A final slice is Figs at 0.19%. The data label for chocolate also reads "A tem far de goyim imo but live your best life. I'm a chart, not a simpsons joke." The figure also contains two inserts. The first is a box reading "Fig 1. Two-part pie chart representing votes for best hamantaschen filling, from 1041 votes cast over a period of one week & 156 reblogs." The second is a box located next to the final slice of the second pie, which represents figs. The box reads "Fig 2. Two votes for figs."]
As expected, the canonical Big Three of Apricot, Raspberry, and Poppyseed held the majority between them, totalling 58.3% of all votes. The identity of the Other flavors were recorded by hand; I marked down the notes as they came in and double-checked them at the completion of the poll. This poll readily acknowledges that there is no means available by which to suss out double-dip fraud (if a person voted for one of the nine available choices but only tagged a non-available choice). If you put more than one non-given choice in your tags or reply (e.g., blueberry AND lemon curd) I chose the one that made it so I had to make fewer new slices (lemon curd).
Prunes fans, I'm sorry. Please noisemaker me.

@blotthis tagged me for ten songs I am vibing with. I confess to having a relationship with music listening that some would call 'lame' as I have basically never built a relationship to an artist or their body of work (except for john themountaingoats darnielle). I blame my boomer father for burning out those receptors in my youth by inadvertently filling my head with the entire beatles discography, leaving no room for me to become a teen who liked music for cultural reasons (I became a ska kid but because of other reasons). sorry I don't have spotify.
yerbatero (2010) - juanes. I am basically always listening to this song.
washington square (2011) - the correspondents. if you look up the music video it's exactly what you think a bunch of nerds into burlesque would make. I think it's good when something is horny but also sopping wet lame about it. this is the number one song I'd sing at karaoke if they had it but they'll never have it.
the rockafeller skank (1998) - fatboy slim. I put on this song on two weeks ago via free association and have been studying it ever since, mostly for its use of sample as instrumentation. (I went and also listened to all its samplees, too.) two things about this: 1) crit about this alludes to the existence to a uk-based genre called 'big beat' but all the writing about big beat just refers back to fatboy slim. cycle of internet ouroboros complete. 2) I imprinted heavily on the digimon the movie soundtrack.
careful with that hat! (2009? 2010?) - citay
the story in your eyes (1971) - the moody blues. ethan has a horrible tendency to fixate on the phrase 'from the ashes of the old' when we discuss reform versus revolution and every time he does I have to put this on. and then bap him with a newspaper
communication with the dead (2013?) - unclear. I think I would be much more into gabber than I am if I had had more freedom (financial, personal) as a young person. this song was made available for free but the links are defunct. if you want it in 320 message me
acid disco homegirls (2015) - the hair kid. I spend a lot of time on soundcloud but am deliberately not including here all the 45-second-to-three-minute soundclowns I love to accumulate because I respect my followers' time.
cadaver sniffing dog (2019) - the mountain goats. this is my favorite song from this album. I saw him on tour when he was debuting this material. the concert went on for twenty years. man simply has insane stamina
extremely online (2019) - mc frontalot. noone told me that he had an album out after question bedtime until like january this year. what the fuck. damian I love you
call ticketron (2016) - rtj. I was gonna put legend has it and then I was like. well we just had that echolalia post and the cadence of the live from the garden sample has definitely invaded my phonobulary
bonus - current work loop
let's tag some mutuals! some mutuals blot didn't already tag. mutuals who only have a normal amount of emotions about ace attorney. mutuals who love, and dream, and kill. @literallymechanical @waywardking @blasphemous-lies-and-deceit @relia-robot @falindrith @efortmanteau
I think for maximum enjoyment you will figure out what works best for you but here are a couple of tips:
getting the full stealth gear is good. but also unequipping your weapon, shield, and bow reduces your noise level (as you can see in the HUD). I don't know if this is placebo or not but it seems to me that beyond simply having three points in stealth making less noise lets you get closer to things. obviously this has backfired on me hilariously many times as a stalmoblin spawns at dusk and kills me instantly
(minor gear spoiler) the glow gear or a three-point glow buff will help you light your own shots. brightbloom seeds can also be artfully deployed for a cooler glow. this is great for getting crisper pictures in faron, for instance, where it's always hazy. the steps left behind by the full glow gear are good too. I haven't tried a zonai light yet but it seems like it would work insanely well
(righthand image taken wearing glow gear in faron)
you can also set up a fire to take better-lit pictures of things like snow wolves.
try to keep eight or more shots open in your album.
if all your shots are coming out looking shitty save and quit out and let the switch get some stamina back. REAL THING THAT HAPPENS. game of the year
since the first post has been continually in my mentions I figured I'd upload some more 'photography'.
wolves! I think they take longer to snarl than they did in botw, because these shots are easier to get.
inspired by @ot3's really good rainbow sparrow pics I went out to also get some rainbow sparrow pics. this is easier if you haven't wrapped up the newspaper quest yet, since penn gathers them at stables
jesus christ shooting gleeoks is hard. this one is at the ancient columns, which has uneven terrain, but I have no idea how I'm going to get the others like this. and also: wizzrussy.
bonus: (chubbyemu voice) a local twink tried to get an action shot of a like like. this is what happened to their health bar.
