I wanted to draw Gekkomon but again, the rules said that I can only do digimon registered in the encyclopedia. So what I wanted to do is add some mons that represented parts of the franchise. I put a lot of anime protagonists, Zero representing the manga, Aegiomon video games, Pteromon for TCG/Liberator, Pulsemon for Vital Bracelet, Dorumon movies, etc etc I wanted to add some much more but the deadline was very short :(

Is Poyomon at Nirinso shelter Asuka's partner Digimon? (+Kyo’s and Asuka’s past theory)

This might be a bit far-fetched, but Poyomon at Nirinso Shelter might belong to Asuka. While there are many in-training Digimon at the shelter, some get a bit more attention, such as the one that Tomoro nearly deleted. But this Poyomon seems to have more screentime compared to others and while it might’ve been so it could show its development for the Little Courage episode, this might hint there is something more to it.

And what if its Owner is Asuka?

It is already clear that Asuka knows about Digimon despite not being a Cleaner and considering the general public doesn’t know about Digimon, he had to learn about them before. Of course, he knew Kyo for a while, to the point Kyo refers to him as an old friend so he probably learned about Digimon from him.

But what if Asuka learned about Digimon when getting his own and Kyo was the Cleaner sent to collect it? Bounties are placed on Owners who don’t report to the Ministry of Civil Protection and Cleaners claim them. It is not clear when Kyo left Five Stars other than that he joined them when he was ten and stayed there until he grew up to what seems like late teenage years. According to official sources, Asuka is 22 years old (23 by episode 12 since he had a birthday), so if his parents were arrested 6 years ago, he was barely 16 years old at the time, just a year older than Tomoro right now.

Digimon are conjured from intense emotions and while all flashbacks showed Asuka as extremely patient, hardworking and loving big brother even when he was still a child, a drastic event could wreck up his emotions significantly. It’s not easy to suddenly lose your parents and become a solo provider of your younger sibling, who is even more devastated by this event. Asuka still kept his positivity despite quitting a hobby that was very dear to him and acting strong for Tomoro. But there was probably a point in his life when it was simply too much for him and he broke down in private, when Tomoro was either at school or asleep and that’s when his Sapotama created his partner Digimon.

Digimon are a reflection of their Owners and Asuka shows a great deal of protectiveness over Tomoro. While he is already going far and beyond, part of him may still not consider himself to be good enough for what his little brother needs. Desire and yearning to be able to do more might’ve resulted in creation of his partner Digimon.

And why would Poyomon be his reflection?

Poyomon belongs to the evolutionary line than can evolve into Patamon and therefore Angemon, MangaAngemon and Seraphimon. What other line would be more perfect to symbolize protection over the ones you love than a literal guardian angel?

His surname “Tenma” also translates to “pegasus” and do you know what other Digimon can Poyomon evolve to?

Poyomon was also first found by Tomoro and Gekkomon outside the shelter. Why would a baby Digimon who was already shown as timid and easily scared be wandering off so far away? Perhaps it could feel when Asuka was Cold Hearted and has been worrying about him ever since. It is also confirmed that Digimon can absorb people’s memories, so when it fed on Asuka, it also saw all of his memories with Tomoro. So when Tomoro was nearby, it might’ve sensed him and did what it was created for - tried to protect him, but since it was still in baby form, it couldn’t do much and it was even scared to see the person it was supposed to protect. Gekkomon also sensed it before, and while it could be because it fed on Kyo’s e-pulse, he only confirmed that once he licked it - before Gekkomon might’ve sensed Asuka’s e-pulse since he didn’t answer right away.

It might also be possible that it reflects another part of Asuka - feeling helpless of not being strong enough to protect. But in Little Courage it finally got a chance to get stronger - and it was when Tomoro was in danger of being Cold Hearted. True it might’ve been just a baby Digimon protecting a human who fed them to the point of collapsing from exhaustion, but there was something about that scene that made that Poyomon truly desperate to protect Tomoro.

Though if Poyomon is indeed Asuka’s partner Digimon, why would he leave him in Nirinso Shelter instead of becoming a Cleaner with a much better pay? The answer might lie in another theory I made about Tomoro being an experiment under Chairmon Wong. If Tomoro would learn about Digimon sooner his emotions would likely be more unstable, creating Gekkomon when he didn’t have enough control yet. So he hid his Digimon partner from him and when Kyo arrived to claim it, Asuka didn’t let it go.

Kyo likely gave him the official explanation like at every bounty so far, but Asuka questioned him more. Why do they exist? How is e-pulse connected to them? What happens to them when they are handed over? And once he learns they get deleted, something breaks in Asuka. A creature with sentience, the one created when responding to his strong desire to protect Tomoro… being called a glitch, a mistake in need of deletion. Asuka didn’t just see a digimon, he saw his brother, a kid whose “wrong” e-pulse” was breaking Sapotamas and being excluded by everyone… so he refused to hand it over.

We don’t know what made Kyo leave Five Stars other than that he didn’t agree with their methods. But considering the drastic change for his child self who was just obsessed with power and Kaito who barely recognized him now… something really big had to happen for him to become the Kyo we know today.

And the reason for that might very likely be Asuka… when he refused to hand him over that Digimon. Kyo was probably used to how bounties went, informing the owner about it, taking it by force if they refused, most of them likely seeing it as a realistic hologram, tool to be used or just a nuisance. But Asuka saw it as another living creature, asking why can’t they co-exist with humans. Kyo might’ve disregarded it at first, just doing his job, but something made him think and had Asuka elaborate. Simple conversation might’ve led to several debates, each proving Kyo wrong until he finally accepted it and saw it as indeed a worthy cause to fix this world. When Kyo rescued Blackgaogamon from self-deletion, he said “Everyone deserves a second chance” - and it might be something Asuka said to Kyo. Cougarmon said that Kyo’s e-pulse used to be full of anger and he might've been at the point where he thought he cannot do anything else - but Asuka helped him see there is always a second chance and taught him how to transform that anger into a new dream.

Therefore Niriso shelter came to be and Asuka’s partner Digimon now reverting to in-training form was the first resident. We can see in the Niriso episode that Poyomon is shown by Kyo’s side and later also in front of all other Digimon, almost acting like the leader. It is also shown that Kyo was visiting the shelter every two weeks to feed them and he looked a lot more exhausted than usual, and that might be because someone else was feeding them before he was doing it on his own - Asuka. While Asuka could’ve been just working multiple shifts to support Tomoro, it is also quite possible that he was also spending time at Niriso shelter, feeding Digimon and catching up with his partner Digimon.

It is also quite possible that Kyo’s dream of creating a world of co-existence came from Asuka. He wanted a world where “glitches” aren’t excluded and where the system doesn’t decide who needs to be taken away or even deleted. Authorities already took his parents for unknown reasons and he fears losing Tomoro as well, and considering the Ministry of Civil Protection doesn’t take it lightly when it comes to “mistakes” he was right to be worried about Tomoro. Knowing there will be a time when Tomoro will conjure his digimon, Asuka asked Kyo to look after him, probably fearing the Ministry of Civil Protection will one day come after him and he won’t be able to protect him.

Since we are getting another episode with the Nirinso shelter next week, it would be interesting to see if that Poyomon will be shown again or not. Preview was more focused on reunion between Haruomi and Commandramon as well as a new Digimon he saved, so there were no other in-training Digimon shown. But who knows Poyomon might show up yet again since so far Beatbreak was really good at featuring characters from past episodes.

And judging from the new ending ,this arc will likely focus on Rose and her helpers and probably Reina and Makoto since Tomoro played the major part of the first and second arc. But the arc after will most likely be about Kaito, Kanada, Kyo and hopefully Asuka, revealing all of their backstories as well as origin of Digimon and the real plan of Chairman Wong. Still, it would be indeed an interesting plot twist if Asuka wakes up before the series’ end, reunites with his Digimon partner and fights by Tomoro’s side in that last battle.
