Hi folks! I've had so much fun with past writing challenges I've taken part in, and I knew that I wanted to host one of my own once I hit 1k followers - and now we're here!! I am so, so grateful to each and every one of you. Entering this fandom, as well as the fanfic world in general, has been such a source of positivity and joy for me. I could get all sappy on you all, but just know that if we've ever had an interaction, or even if you're a silent follower whose handle I recognize as it comes across my notifications, I am incredibly appreciative of you.
Now for the challenge! I'm combining my two favorite things - PPCU & horror. If you don't typically write horror/dark themes, please do not be scared off! Horror is such a broad genre, and if any of the tropes below interest you, I'd love if you joined. The 'tropes' listed include various genres, character types, and themes/sub-genres.
How it works: Pick a PPCU character of your choosing from the list below, and then choose a horror trope from the corresponding list. I'm also happy to help - so if you're having trouble, or just want it to be fun and randomized, let me know and I can either choose the character for you, the trope, or both! Just send me an ask with your Pedro character and the horror trope you'd like (or ask me to choose for you). There can be repeats of characters, but not repeats of tropes. I will update the list as we go and add more tropes as needed!
I'm setting an initial deadline of September 15th - but please let me know if that does not seem feasible for you; I want everyone to be able to join who'd like to! Please tag me when you post your fic and use the hashtag #ppcuhorrorchallenge.

Joel’s feet met the floor, his elbows met his knees, and his hands slid up his cheeks, grazing the scruff there until his palms cradled the totality of his face.
The lifetime he had just woken up from was brutal to say the least – one of the worst ones he’d ever experienced.
The last two things he remembered thinking was, one, he had just found you – after 56 years. It was the longest it had ever taken. In all honesty he had started to think that your paths wouldn’t cross in that lifetime – due to the massive loss of human lives from the outbreak. A thought gripped him once, that he’d come across you, but you’d be newly infected and he’d have to kill you. That didn’t happen – about the only mercy he was spared in that life. The second thing he remembered was thinking of your sweet face, your beautiful eyes and how it pained him so that the next time they’d see him they’d be dragging him through the gates of Jackson behind a horse wrapped in cloth. How he wouldn’t be able to comfort you, knowing the unbearable pain you’d feel.
The last thing he remembered seeing was Ellie. They were eye to eye, laying on the floor with what felt like an insurmountable distance between them. He tried to move, giving a last valiant effort but his body had been too badly mangled — pushed past the point of no return.
His soul was starting to feel that way. While he sat there at the edge of the bed holding his face.
Joel doesn’t remember when the recurrence started. He knew you’d be here in this new lifetime –even though you wouldn’t remember him– and that your paths would cross once more… eventually.

i'm supposed to be writing something else but i finally found some inspiration for my upcoming fic Lamb of God, the gothic horror fic i'm writing for @ess-evo's ppcu horror writing challenge and i'm making some good headway with it!! i took a more southern gothic tone to this but it's been so much fun and i actually think it might be the most dramatic and most beautiful thing i've ever written :') like idk i am so in love with the way it feels ANYWAY
