That elusive thing
In your dreams you have sullied and murdered,
and dreams do not lie.
- Mary Oliver, Rage. From Dream Work (1986).

This is not a love poem. This is bruised under eyes and a mound of “What ifs” left in the corner. It’s the unmade bed. The half touched plates. They tell you you’re only somebody if someone loves you. You look at all the empty space around you and only feel ghosts. You wonder why it isn’t easy to move on. This is not a love poem. It’s not about the tender insides of a bruised peach. It’s not about the clean kitchen and fresh sheets. It’s a two am drive with shaking hands and four empty packs of cigarettes. It’s goodbye caught in your throat. It’s fading taillights and sleepless nights. This is not a love poem.I️t can’t be a love poem. Not until I️ let you go.

I had a plan to ask her for forever - sky high under moonlight, where she'd look to the stars in the sky and I look to the stars in her eyes, with passion floating through the air while I hold her in my arms and she stands content there. Then at any moment I'm on my knee; asking for eternity. But this morning while she lay still, the sun seeping in and I knew she was mine for real. Her eyes fluttered open and her beauty had never been more exquisite. (This is the moment. This is it.) I hold up forever in her line of sight "You and me. For all eternity?" The words roll off my tongue. A laugh falls out her mouth. Our lips meet in a kiss with Forever resting on her finger while our eternity begins in bliss.

I just wanna die for a purpose But now I gotta figure this whole living thing out. And it's really fucking me up.
