People Power Party lawmaker Kweon Seong-dong has undergone more than 13 hours of questioning by the special counsel team investigating corruption allegations against former first lady Kim Keon-hee.
Kweon, who arrived at special counsel Min Joong-ki’s office in central Seoul at 9:47 a.m. Wednesday, returned home at 11:30 p.m.
Kweon is said to have testified actively without invoking his right to remain silent.
He is accused of receiving 100 million won, or about 72-thousand U.S. dollars, from a Unification Church official between 2021 and 2024 and accepting additional cash from church leader Han Hak-ja in 2022.
Investigators also suspect that church members were recruited to join the People Power Party to bolster his leadership bid during the party’s 2023 convention.
Appearing for questioning on Wednesday, Kweon maintained his innocence and said he would prove it at the interrogation session.
