OOC: Although you're more interested in just playing in your own sandbox, do you have any predictions as to what the future chapter(s?) of PPT could have in store?
I predict PPT will end with chapter 100 in the year 2070, when we finally reach the earth's core, meet Friendly Character that's Close to Poppy but Has Literally Never Been Mentioned Before or Alluded to in Playtime Co. Advertising #171 (and they also become the antagonist of the chapter), encounter Mob's 50th attempt at cashing in on The Smiling Critters' popularity, and finally defeat The Prototype, who is now just a mask... /lhsarc
Real answer? It's never gonna end. We'll get an "ending" at chapter either 6th or 7th- there will be a spoopy post credits scene hinting at spinoff/sequel/prequel bullshit, then the inevitable movies will just retell everything all over again- it'll just be fnaf the franchise 2 (only worse)
Have you seen the ch5 update from a few weeks back? Apparently the player character is really injured now after the goop respawned them
oh sure did! Now they actually waddle with a limp and their vision is all gross.
still to this day unable to wrap my head around why the hell that wasn't already in the chapter tho. not only does it very much alter the vibe of that ending but also generally doesn't make all that much sense from a selling standpoint- if you'd already cut corners at release so much, why the hell glue them back on now when the hype is long dead?
like okay obviously that's exactly it, an attempt at keeping the hype going and keeping people talking about it and shit but like. THE ENDING OF YOUR LAST, BIGGEST ENTRY TO DATE??? some bs
What if the Prototype wants to fix Poppy by making her part of him? The two of them would share a body, with the Prototype mostly in control. He would think he's doing her a favor, keeping her safe and making her feel powerful like him (like a 'cage she wouldn't want to leave'). I think he'd look mostly the same, just with Poppy's blue eye placed in his empty left socket (and maybe some pretty red hair under his hood?)
Poppy would occasionally take over his voice box to call out to you in her own voice, and eventually she'd find a way to take control long enough to save you and/or stop him from killing you.
The reason I thought of this is because MOB is very obviously inspired by the Bendy games, and (spoiler)
Bendy and the Dark Revival has something like this play out in the finale.
I don't think it's super likely to happen, but it's a possibility 🤔
OOC: Some people REALLY dislike Poppy for reasons such as her running away at the end of Chapter 4. I’m a huge defender of her myself, given her understandable past trauma and the fact that she hasn’t done nearly as much bad as the antagonists of the game (nevermind blatant fandom misogyny and lack of attention to the female characters in both the fandom and the PPT game), but I am interested in your own thoughts, if you would like to share them?
I THINK- she's tragically underutilized. Also I worry I might subconsciously be guilty of overlooking her myself, which I hope to work on in writing exploration.
regularly I think on those few bits from chap 4 where Harley shittalks her to us.
"Poppy would do it. That brutish glob of clay would do it." (kill a Critter to escape a trap- sacrifice a "mindless" toy life for sake of (*conviction of a) greater good.)
That, and the bit "Poppy's sold you her version of the story. Do you even know what role she had in the Hour? That she KNEW it was coming?" (paraphrased)
It is sad that the only way mob even bothered to get people to really care about her was by giving her a (*male) mirror(s) to bounce off of, but it's better than nothing and at the very least does help truly embolden her own character, ideology/belief systems and own logic.
Chapter 4 stands with my own personal favorites specifically for this reason- for the fact they actually began toying with the muddy morality of it all.
BECAUSE it all HAS to end SOMEHOW,
... doesn't it..?
But... how CAN it realistically end? CAN it even be ended in a way that mets any amount of TRUE justice? Should justice even BE the motivation? Peace? Death?
I adore the contrast we have right now. Freedom/Peace OR Happiness/Safety. Blue Pill or the Red Pill.
Freedom in the choice to take a risk,
Safety in absolute loss of autonomy.
Go up into flame,
Go down in sleep.
Rips my face off and eats it. I need to write my bs. asap. I'll get back to you
For Carver: Are you critical about the actual Poppy Playtime game and the company behind it as a whole? And do you have criticisms on the Prototype’s design as well? Or would you prefer to refrain from talking about such things on this fun RP blog?
warnings: mob critical; my knowledge may have holes (or be blatantly wrong)
tldr mark was right to clock their asses.
there is no force in this entire bitch of a universe that can stop me from pelting moldy tomatoes their way at every turn.
aside from blatant protoinspiration they took off FNAF (sotm most notably) and the NFT bullshit, harassment of minors over fucking minecraft slop animations, first chapter being but a glorified demo that they STILL had the GALL to charge like. what was it 5-10$ clams on release, (with a fckin. main menu merch button) cowardice, and a lack of accountability-
i also just dont see studios/companies as friends who need defending or who can be actually GENUINELY harmed by extensive criticism. they literally laid off a sizeable chunk of staff and replaced them with new people in order to pad out what should've initially been a 5part story. the way the """lore""" is delivered to us is total bullshit. the games hardly look fun to even WATCH other people play- let alone to tempt me into trying to actually bother playing them myself.
I only barely got hooked around chapter 3-4ish, 5 cementing me in place if only because my Muse kicked in so hard for a character who's entire gist boils down to "i have suffered so much for a reward that isn't even mine to lay claim to- but claim it i shall anyway, and i will make it entirely mine so no one hurts me again"
but anyway thats just my two cents pls dont come to my home and kill me. thx
Funny how if you're playing this game without picking up all the relevant optional notes you're not going to understand any of this goop lore. Remember how confused Mark was with Sawyer's sudden cliffhanger return? Ppt is made for game theory YouTubers and yet we find ourselves engaged with the game's story 😔. We're being held hostage by the one cool jester character
yeaaah. shit's designed to be an autism trap and brother they got me. shameful
in all fairness mark was iirc also hangry and burnt out from work on his movie- AND thrown into one Barely Enjoyable Fun Fest of Poor environment /game /level /puzzle /chase sequence design. for like 5 hrs or so. only for the Reward for Beating a stupid challenging chase sequence where he died a few times to be. dying again only scripted. and then the player character DOESNT DIE AND INSTEAD THE CHAPTER JUST KEEPS GOING. and THEN when they find that blasted doohickey they'd been after all game long- in it mark/a player receives confirmation that the one guy you take half of ch4 to kill is now magically back.
yeah. Yeah.
mark was still 100% justified in his rant.
it's a mess of nonsense and bullshit and they just HAPPENED to set the kitchen ablaze with the tragedy of the hellclown gigaspider robot jackass in the box boy.
The Poppy Playtime Problem <- This video is long, but it sums up some really good PPT gameplay and ESPECIALLY story problems, and how the game shoots itself in the foot regarding how it chooses to tell its story and introduce its mysteries.
gon be a bit tight for time this weekend but tysm for the rec! putting this out so others can check it out in the meantime
