I'm using an alternate fingering for high A in Mendelssohn 3 and it is sounding very flat whenever I practice at home. However, in orchestra, the alt. fingering sounds in tune. Which is not making sense to me, because A is the tonic and shouldn't need to be altered to be in tune?

It works better in context, so I will continue to practice it.

It's been 12 days since I practiced. I was out all last weekend for pride and wedding events (my friend's brother) and last week I had no energy and an appointment.

Time to play some long tones.

I am not a pianist, but I am working on getting my piano skills a little better and have been practicing on the weekends with Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course Level 1.

I've made it to page 119 and the fingering for this piece seems bizarre.

In the third system, treble clef, the music says to use 1 on both the C and B flat. It's a moderately fast piece, so that seems to not be the greatest change. As a non keyboard player, my thought is to play the B flat with 2, D with 4, and then the chord with 1 and 3 to prepare for the next measure.

Pianists, thoughts?

Started the week eighth equals 63, now I'm at 72

I couldn't really hear the improvement I made, but writing it down really shows how it gets better with practice
