#Repost @tonyblauer ・・・ Public Speaking. #1 fear for most people on surveys around the world. Like anything else, all it takes are reps. Reps = experience. Managing any fear is about actively looking at it and asking a few questions: Why am I visualizing the negative? What erroneous beliefs are influencing me? What do I need to do to change this feeling? In the picture about I'm talking to hundred of police and tactical officers at a conference in Germany. My talk is being translated. The auditorium was daunting. Look at the size of the screens for my presentation. Despite my years and years of public speaking experience I was very nervous leading up to the talk. Why? I was the same. My passion and message in tack. So why was I nervous? Simple: New stimuli. New routine, new equipment, new audience, new timings. This is how the brain works. Sensory overload and voila, performance anxiety. Fortunately, I know this guy who studies and teaches fear managment 😉and he's created a system to self-diagnosis fear so we can learn from it in real-time. This approach focuses the psychology of fear (not the biology of it). And This has been my path for decades. Fear is what you feel when you're thinking about what can go wrong. This is a quote from our SPEAR System personal defense course: "Intimidation, is when you're visualizing what your opponent can do to you instead of what you must do to your opponent." Train yourself to reverse the image. When you think about what can go right the negative feeling dissipates. Courage can be cultivated and strengthened very much like your fitness. But you need to train it. Start small. Commit to it. Feel fear? Analyze it. Move towards it. Learn from it. Embrace it. Watch it's hold on you weaken. Remember our 4-steps to KNOW FEAR. Face the fear Understand the fear Control the fear Know the fear The more you practice courage the more easily you can access it. It's mostly mental. Drop the "no fear" myth and embrace the "know fear" mantra. #practicecourage #fuckfear
