It really sucks when people are already trying to bully you out of a community that you’re barely even a part of yet. I got hatemail, basically, from somebody in the Instagram SD community saying that i only want a service dog for attention. Lol. Are you kidding me. Literally i dont have any friends in the SD community yet so like, no one knows anything about me. How can you pass these judgements on someone who has barely said anything about SDs AND has barely even expressed that they want to get an SD.
••• PSA. ITS REALLY ABLEIST TO ASSUME SOMEONE ISN’T DISABLED BECAUSE EITHER THEIR DISABILITY ISN’T VISIBLE, OR THEY CHOOSE NOT TO TALK ABOUT IT TO PEOPLE/ON SOCIAL MEDIA. •••
There are literally 3 reasons i dont have a SD yet. •1. Im still doing thorough research. I’ve had/trained pet dogs in the past, but i don’t know about training service dogs!!! I am learning, just like everyone else once did. •2. I cant afford it. Getting a service dog is EXPENSIVE, and because of the research im doing, i know how much it costs to have a service dog lol. •3. Contrary to popular belief, im nervous about getting a service dog because i DONT want attention !!!!!!!!!!! I’ve seen countless posts by SD handlers about how much unwanted attention they get in public spaces. For someone with social anxiety and difficulty being assertive, thats a huge sacrifice im going to have to make to have a service dog. ••• People are just so eager to police their communities that they’re hurting others in the process. Of course i’m against people passing off their untrained pets as SDs. Of course i think its fucked up if someone abuses the laws in place to protect people with disabilities, visible or not. But don’t criticize someone you know absolutely NOTHING about. ••• For the record, yes, i am disabled, and yes a service dog would be able to benefit me. Not that its anyones damn business. 🙄 ••• Also !!! Pictured is Pandora, my sister in-law’s pet dog!! 🐶💕 Shes a super sweet pit-bull w/ one of the biggest hearts, and attitudes ever. If you’ve never met a “diva-dog”, heres one for you. 👑 ••• #servicedog #servicedogsofinstagram #practicelovenothate
