Did you know that Europe’s biggest dark sky area is the Prades and Montsant mountains are in Camp de Tarragona, Catalonia? 🌃🌌✨

Dark sky areas are the places officially recognised as being free of light pollution, so at night you can see the stars and the Milky Way very clearly.

The mountains of Prades and Montsant are a rural area in the south of Catalonia. The villages in it take care as to not put out more light than necessary, following the directives of the Dark Sky Movement. For example, they make sure that all streetlights only release light downwards and not towards the sky.

This darkness is important for taking care of both the environment and human communities, because it has been proved to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of wildlife and people.

The dark night sky certificates are given by the Starlight Foundation, which measures the darkness and recognises the dark places with a compromise to take care of their dark night sky.
