Hi! Sorry to bother you, but is there any chance you plan to update Prairie Lullaby? I love that fic!

Thank you for this note - you are definitely not bothering me at all!  I’m just sorry to report that I don’t have a definitive answer on this one.  I haven’t written in months and it’s getting harder and harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel - which is me actually continuing what I started.  i would love to right more, but until the stars actually align for me, I can’t promise anything.

But I am so glad you have enjoyed the story so far - it’s amazing to me how many people do - and I wish you a wonderful holiday season!

Hello kind person who is interested in my writing!  Sorry it took me so long to answer - partly that was life, and partly because, yeah, it’s hard to admit that I have no idea when or if I’m going to get more of this story written.  I am working on it....at a very glacial pace...with many interruptions.  So perhaps...one day!

In the meantime, you can have a sneak peek at a little of what I have written of the next chapter, under the cut.

Emma’s return to wakefulness was slow.  At first she wasn't aware of anything much other than the fact she was warm; a state she hadn’t often found herself in since she’d begun occupying the bed in the cabin’s sole bedroom.  The bedclothes were thin and the gaps between the boards in  the wall let the cool night air in.

But this morning was different, and the usual chill in her feet that sent her hopping out of bed wasn’t present.  It was pleasant, but the drowsy sort of pleasant that didn’t alert any of her other senses unduly.  She was content to remain where she was, hovering on the edge of the dream she could no longer remember and let the warmth seep through her.

It was the smell which permeated the air around her that finally let Emma know something was different.  It wasn’t unpleasant; quite the opposite.  But it was unexpected and it sent her spinning into wakefulness sharply, her eyes flying open and her head twisting over her shoulder as she suddenly remembered that she wasn’t alone in the bed.

Killian had clearly been awake far longer than she had.  In the dull grey light that filtered through the gaps in the wall she could see the way he was gazing over at her, perhaps studying her as she slept.

The thought made her feel a little odd.  Not so much the fact that he had taken the opportunity to scrutinise her features; Emma thought that that she might have done the same in his place.  But she wasn’t certain whether there was some greater significance she was missing, in the same way that she’d failed to assign any importance to their first night as man and wife, and she could hardly ask outright and risk revealing her ignorance about the situation.  She remained quiet, and still, as though she ran the risk of being discovered.

“Good morning,” Killian said, softly..  

“And to you,” Emma replied, rolling onto her other side so that she was facing him.  She’d felt a little at a disadvantage before, having not been afforded the luxury of an uninterrupted view of her bedmate.  Now, at least, she could meet his eye although the movement had meant that Emma’s bare breast had brushed against Killian’s arm, the contact sending a shiver down her spine and reminding her of her current nakedness.

“Have you been awake for long?” Emma inquired, not really certain that she actually cared what the answer was.  What interested her greatly what the question of what happened next, how long did she and Killian remain in the little bubble of intimacy that seemed to envelop the bed and its occupants.

“Please.”

It was just one word, spoken so quietly it was closer to a breath than a whisper, but in its wake, Mike felt any and all protests he might have had melt away into nothingness.
