Tiny Details
I like to think that every moment in the show is a part of the Johnlock story. Here’s a moment I hadn’t considered before:
Seconds before Moriarty takes over the taxi screen, we see this ad.
Let’s start with the big, bold, order number.
8, 81, 57, 57
...TO THE SONNETS!
8 - Shakespeare “urges a young man to settle down with a wife and to have children. It insists a family is the key to living a harmonious, peaceful life.”
81 - Poetic immortality, meaning that through their words, a writer can make their subject live on after death.
57 - the pining sonnet, in which Shakespeare declares himself a slave to the young man he loves, and must wait until his love is requited.
Through the sonnet code we get:
Sherlock’s desire for John to find a happy, healthy family life
John honoring Sherlock’s life through his blog in the face of his coming death
Unrequited love, waiting across the passage of time (x2 for both Baker Street Boys)
And then there’s the item for sale:
“Stunning evening wear sent from us here at London Taxi Shopping. As you can see, the set comprises of a beautiful cappuccino pearl [necklace], accompanied by four sparkling diamond bracelets.”
5 pieces = 5 seasons
The third piece is made of ‘cappuccino pearls.’ Cappuccino = coffee = het relationships.
The third season focuses on Mary and John’s relationship.
Did they really make a 3 second ad to foreshadow plot and romance? Maybe so.
