TW: death mention at the end.
When I hear Fatboy Slim's Praise You, it reminds me of the fashion show my company put on when we were on delta lockdown right after 9/11. We weren't allowed to leave post for a while and there was no alcohol sold anywhere on post.
So, as any bored soldier does, we got creative...
We made a catwalk out of the training room tables, put a killer soundtrack on the stereo via our collective recent CD purchases, and modeled our various civvies (civilian clothes) & some heavily modified uniform configurations.
Our DJ/MC was our resident Italian Stallion (most units have at least one Italian soldier & he gets stuck with that nickname).
Our Italian Stallion was short, blonde, and had glasses, but he kept the good tunes on rotation while we did our best to entertain ourselves without booze, drugs, or sex.
The room erupted with cheering when our DJ threw off his uniform and modeled his brand new civilian boxer briefs.
He walked that catwalk in black jungle boots, Ralph Lauren underwear, and his army-issued BCGs to Fatboy Slim's Praise You.
He died 4 years later in Afghanistan.
That catwalk is still in my memory, and he walks it again every time I hear that song.
