The funniest thing I’ve learned from posting my husband on TikTok…

Is people’s reactions to it.

When my husband and I met, I was already hopelessly obsessed with Final Fantasy and Resident Evil. That was table stakes, and a package deal when dating me.

He knew shipping discourse was going to come up after a couple beers. He knew I had opinions about fictional relationships. We disagreed on plenty of them, argued about them for fun, and then went to bed like normal people.

Then Resident Evil 4 Remake came out.

For Halloween I convinced him to dress up as Leon while I went as Ashley. He absolutely crushed it. We had so much fun that we kept going. Cosplay slowly became one of those weird little hobbies that belonged to us.

Years later, when I finally decided to share more of my life online, this felt like the safest piece to share. I don’t post much about my marriage or my family. Fandom and cosplay felt like a nice middle ground.

Then the comments started.

“You don’t actually love your husband.”

“You’re emotionally cheating.”

“She wishes he was with Leon.”

At first I was genuinely confused.

Leon is a cartoon.

It honestly never occurred to me that people would see dressing my husband as a fictional character the same way they’d see wanting another real person.

So I asked my husband what he thought.

He said he isn’t bothered because, in his words, “You don’t want Leon for yourself. You ship him with every other girl and like his story.”

To him, this isn’t about replacing him with someone else. It’s about playing in a fictional world together. The same way someone gets excited about superheroes, D&D characters, or movie couples. He’s participating in something that already made me happy long before we met…

I think that’s why it works for us.

He’s never competing with a fictional character because… there isn’t a competition. One is my husband. The other is a bunch of pixels with thirty years of lore.

Reading the comments has honestly been fascinating because it’s reminded me that every relationship has different boundaries. What feels completely harmless to one couple might feel uncomfortable to another.

Neither of us is trying to convince anyone else to do what we do.

I just think it’s funny that one of the healthiest, silliest parts of our marriage somehow became the most controversial thing I’ve ever posted.
