Hey so I hope you don't take this as being mean, because that's certainly not what I'm aiming for! I was wondering whether, as the child of a sperm donor who has obviously been through hell and back because of the stigma, are you "against" sperm donation/using sperm donors? And I guess similarly with egg donation/usage?
Hi! Don’t worry - I am definitely not taking your question like that! It’s pretty hard to offend or anger me with honest questions. I try to be super open about things like this! ☺️To answer your question, no! No, I’m not. I think that the science behind it is SO impressive and I know how important sperm/egg donation is to the people who use such resources! It warms my heart so much to see infertile couples or homosexual families (or anyone who uses such systems) be able to have children if/when they want through the use of sperm and egg donations and other similar resources! I will never say that sperm or egg donation is a bad thing because I know how positively it has affected the world. And, hey, without it, there would be no me. If my only purpose in life is to be a part of the success of these processes then it is a good enough purpose, I’m sure. My mum and I were in the paper when I was teensy tiny about it, actually! Sperm donation was just becoming more prevalent in the media and family-making business around the time when I was born. So, that’s cool! With that being said, while I am 110% supportive of donations and such, for a long, long while, I absolutely refused to have children unless their father was going to be fully in their lives. After what I dealt with as a child, I couldn’t bear to risk my children having to go through the same mess. However, now that I’m a bit older, dealing with some sexuality confusion, and better able to respect and adore my mum for all that she went through and did in order to have my little brother and I, that opinion is slowly changing. I would definitely prefer to have my babies’ father in their lives IF I marry a man. If I don’t marry a man, I suppose it would be a different story. And, if I never get married, well…I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I’m struggling a lot with this bit of it, to be honest. I don’t know what my future looks like at all. Whatever happens, I hope I am happy and, more than that, I hope my family is happy. I couldn’t be more proud of or impressed by my mum than I am. She is the strongest, bravest, and most INCREDIBLE woman I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She is my biggest inspiration and also my best friend in the world. I hope to be half the person she is when I’m older. She has worked so hard and done so much for us. I am so thankful to be her daughter and, more than that, I am inexplicably proud. I am SO proud to call her my mum. I always will be. (I’m crying, oh my gosh. I just love my mum so much, okay. She is my hero.)I hope this was an adequate response, love! Thank you for asking! No one’s ever asked me this before - I am glad you did. All my love!
