Guys I’m very very tempted to make a solely Discworld blog like with memes and incorrect quotes but- does anyone wanna share it with me?
I see you are really into Terry Pratchett at the moment so I would like to ask how can I start? I mean, which book can I read as the first one. I read somewhere that TPs books aren't written chronologically and this is the only thing that makes me too anxious to start reading te series. I really would like to get into the world (my parents are a big TP fans) but I get overwhelmed by the size of the world. Could please help me? ((If something wasn't clear, sorry I'm not a native speaker))
!!!!!!!! OMG yes!!!
okay, first thing is yes, there is no particular order to read them in, even ones that are in their own sub series. You can just pick up one that either has a interesting cover or fun name and just dive in! However, depending on what kind of genre you into at the moment, one might stand out to you more than the others.
If you like crime fighting, dectective, murder mystery, sherlock holmes kinda stuff i would recommend: Men at Arms, Snuff, or Feet of Clay. (Snuff is one of the last ones, but it was actually one of the first ones i read and even without context of the other series its verrrry good!)
If you like Young Adult fiction, like a young person saving the world while dealing with teenage problems, I would recommend: Soul Music, Mort, or the Tiffany Aching series. (you can start at any but starting with Wee Free Men is best (cause you get to watch tiffany grow up and grow as a character!)
If you’re a fan of ‘dungeons and dragons’ I’d recommend: Guards! Guards!, Sorcery, The Color of Magic, or The Light Fantastical. (While all of discworld has a very dnd vibe to it, these have that famous 80′s Dnd vibes to them)
If you like time travel! (and yes there is time travel XD) check out either Thief of Time or Night Watch. Both are part of separate series but are sooo good even on their own.
The intimadating thing about discworld is that there are sooo many and there isnt any set way to read them. But, ya just gotta pick one up and start reading. If you absolutely just can’t make up your mind, just go for it and start with Thief of Time.
Thief of Time is one of the later ones in the series so the worldbuilding is nearly perfection. It has time travel, goth mary poppin, the horsemen of the Apocalypse, gothic romance aesthetics with clocks, a witch, and ITS THE END OF THE WORLD!??? While you might be confused at the chaos and weird characters, it is a great way to start your journey into the disc.
If anyone is looking for a book to read, specifically Discworld, take this quiz to help tell you which discworld book you should read first.
It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about discworld, but something has been nagging at my brain about adaptations.
I know it’s a bit too late, with The Watch show supposedly coming (I haven’t heard about it anything since because oof) but I feel like the best way to adapt Pratchetts amazing world of weirdness is through animation.
Now i hope we’re all mature enough to see that cartoons and animations can be used for more than just kids shows, right? Anywaysss, I have two specific new shows as a great example, that not only have amazing action scenes with beautiful art, but also deep and compelling characters, these being Castlevania and Seis Manos.
Now both these shows are quite graphic and gorey, but the animation style is absolutely amazing!!
There have already been a few discworld movies (and I love them) but those story lines focus more on the humans, with the exception of a skeleton or golem, and obviously the special effects budget is not be super high. Once trolls and feegles start to appear, it will be difficult to keep the realistic and not appear super ummm, doctor who alien like.
Honestly, idk and this is just my opinion, but it would be very cool to see a dope animated discworld!!
Just one golden mail boi.
Going Postal is really good, ya gotta read it!!

My dad said that back when he worked at a bookstore in NZ, Terry Pratchett would sometimes visit and randomly start signing some of his books straight off the shelves.
Since you guys liked Good Omens so much, may I interest you in some Discworld? Some Tiffany Aching perhaps, or maybe the Ankh-Morpork’s city watch? Or maybe you would like Susan Sto-Helit part-time nanny and granddaughter of death?
