Orlando Strong ♥
Lately I’ve been busy this week and haven’t had a lot of time to sit down to write a long tumblr post, mostly because I was working, trying to push out some art, or trying to spend sometime with my boyfriend with the free time I have.
But, first off, I want to thank everyone for the support on the picture I posted awhile saying #PrayForPulse, I honestly didn’t expect it to get as much traffic as it did and it honestly surprised me. Second, I know that the information in the post is incorrect, but please remember I posted this first thing in the morning when details about the shooting was very new. At the time, 20 were dead and unfortunately the toll did climb to 50. Since then, the City of Orlando’s official blog does have a post that is updated somewhat regularly with victim’s names and identities from the shooting, and I’ll give you the link just in case you want to check: http://www.cityoforlando.net/blog/victims/
Now, my stand point as a Floridian is that, in all honesty, even a couple of days later this is still terrifying. I really have nothing to compare this to because you don’t expect this stuff to happen at your door step. I live maybe 45 minutes east of Orlando near Daytona Beach, in fact I was in the area the day before the shooting. But for the longest time I thought about this stuff, random attacks and mass shootings and it’s scary to think that we live in a time that sometimes we’re constantly looking over our shoulders and resorting to some very scary ways to keep ourselves safe such as buying a weapon or singling out a certain race or creed because of one person that stood out in a crowd of people. You never really think it’s real until it happens just down your street and in your neighborhood.
The biggest question on people’s minds right now, not necessarily Florida, but people affected or people generally interested in the situation, “What do I do now?” It’s a question that really plagues us in a dire time like this where we are somewhat lost in the haze and fog of such a malicious attack. And the question is hard to answer, and I don’t know every answer for it but I can offer a few. The first I have to say is, DO. NOT. LASH. OUT. In the words of Bill and Ted, “Be excellent to each other.” If you spread the hate and lash out against people and begin to jump to some pretty rash thoughts, you’re letting them win. The point behind these kinds of attacks are to scare people, to tear people a part. If you let that happen, you let them in. If there is a time to be a good neighbor and a good friend, it’s now. You have to show them no matter what, you’re strong, you’re independent, and you are an unmovable adamant force. You unite with your brothers and sisters when needed and you don’t ask for anything in return but the help from your other brothers and sisters and their safety as well as yours. Do the victims and the grieving families justice by doing what you can to keep that hate from spreading, what you can do to spread what’s truly right. That’s the American way. If you’re looking for ways to help, you can donate blood or food to your local organizations such as OneBlood or the Red Cross, or you can donate to the Orlando Pulse Victims Fund set up by Equality Florida, which has so far raised over $4 Million in donations out of their $5 Million goal!
I ask that you keep a level head in these times, it’s a terrible time and it’s a very dark time. But in every dark time there is a light, and if you can’t find the light. Be the light.

Feel it flow to your heart, Finding it's home broken. We are millions over thousands-- We are a pulse that beats steady. We are a pulse pumping Love and compassion throughout Our community Our country Our family. We want no vengeance. We want no pain. We want only understanding We want only the pulse that connects All of us To keep flowing.
