Pity & Compassion

Working with people with disabilities I’ve come to learn that there is a huge difference between pity and compassion. 

Pity says, ‘Poor _____ , what a sad life. I’ll shed a tear from here to make me feel better about myself.’ 

Compassion says, “Let me walk with you that extra mile. Let me call greatness out of you. Let me speak truth to you. Let me pray with you. Let me love you the way I’ve been loved.”

Pity leads to build up one’s self-esteem. Compassion leads to action.
