Istanbul. Picture taken at Sultan Ahmet last Summer.
So i live in Istanbul and get devastated by terror attack that took place in Sultanahmet today (well, yesterday). That place would be last one i would think of... What irks me in social media is everyone seems to make it a question of "nobody cares about east anyway" like terror victims are some sort of punchline material. There is no knowledge, what most people talk about is double standards. Yeah i know World is under Western hegemony. And nobody or no place are valued the same. But this is not the main topic. This is about how terror took lives and what kind of impact it made, it is gruesome to compare the reaction for dead more than caring about actual information. To begin with Sultanahmet square is not some war torn area or ~wildly oppressed east~ like some may assume. In fact it is one of the most famous places. It is near Obelisk, Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet Blue Mosque; all of which mark different points of history which shaped our city. It is the first place i would take my foreign friends to visit, it is the place i met with my local friends several times, it is the place where people go for prayers in mosque, it is where people all around the world come all the way to view and admire the beauty. It was not negative or horrifying, it was phenomenal if anything. But 10 people lost their lives there. 10 people lost their lives regardless of what place was before because terror just comes to you. It now means lost lives who will not come back, families torn apart and millions which will be yet again reminded that they are never safe. I hope these just will not happen again. Meanwhile there is no harm to remember that dead people are people who were loved and lived, not bullet points for petty arguements, they are above any political analysis or arguement.

Biz şaşırmıştık, şaşılacak hale geldik
Muhacir arkadaşlardan biri “Bizim oralarda abdestsiz çıkmazlar dışarıya, her an patlama olabiliyor, ölürsek eğer abdestli ölelim diye” demişti. Biliriz zaten biz dışarıya abdestli çıkılması gerektiğini ama bu bizi çok şaşırtmıştı, üzülmüştük. Şimdi aynı durumda biz varız. Her an her şey olabiliyor.
