1: Churches
This week, let's focus on our churches:
We pray for our pastors, that they may keep their eyes on Jesus, not on numbers, not on the church's income, not on anything but Jesus. May they be filled with the Holy Spirit and be strengthened because their job is not easy! May they successfully lead the people of our city to Jesus and his truth.
We pray for our congregations, that they also be filled with the Holy Spirit. That their hearts will not be selfish but that they will feel inspired to support their pastor, to support their fellow Christians, and to reach out to the lost. Let's pray that their hearts become overwhelmed with empathy for the people of our city who don't know Jesus, and as that empathy makes them uncomfortable may they find ways to reach out to the lost, to love them and to show them the hope in Christ.
We pray that those who are involved in church but who haven't committed their lives to Jesus, will be directed by the Holy Spirit. We pray that they will be challenged, will have their walls broken down, and that they will learn to trust in our King.
God we ask for revival in our city. May you make your presence known to your people and help us pray for your kingdom here in Wyoming, Michigan.
First: Yourself
As we begin our prayer for our city, I believe it's important to first focus inward. When we pray in cooperation with God and his will, we must first make time to know his will. We must read scripture and be still and listen to what he is teaching us on a personal level.
Mary Geegh, a missionary in India, who is now in heaven, wrote a wonderful book called God Guides. I encourage you to read it. It's a small, but powerful book concerning prayer and how she listened to God and allowed him to work in her life and in her ministry.
In it, she says we must take time each day in God's word and then to listen to what he may be asking of us. She begins her time with God this way:
"Each of us asked ourselves: "Am I absolutely honest? pure? unselfish? loving? We asked God to show us how to change. Thoughts of correction and direction came. We wrote them down. Then we shared - and surrendered ourselves to God's control. We waited for guidance for our tasks each day. Guided thoughts brought courage, unity, and a new vision for teaching, and for right relationships" -God Guides, Mary Geegh, page 6.
As you let God speak to you each day, he will bring to your mind sins that you aren't even aware of. You will begin to be changed in ways you can't imagine and he will shape you into the man/woman of God he intends you to be. As you allow him to work in you, you will discover that the things he asks you to pray for are not things you may have initially thought of. When we pray for our city it is important that we are working WITH God's will and not trying to push our own will onto God. The power in our prayers is not due to our words or our wishes. It's in our cooperation with the Holy Spirit and understanding God's will and His wishes. It's coming along side him and requesting that His will for our city be done. To do so, you must be able to be still and let him teach you.
I encourage you this week to spend time asking him to open your heart up to his correction, and his will. I encourage you also, to ask that he does this in the lives of your children, your nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. I encourage you to pick up a copy of God Guides and explore a deeper, more fruitful prayer life.

What type of world do we live in where praying for victims is a bad thing #prayforparis #prayforyourcity #prayfortheworld
When you're driving the roads, meeting your people, walking down the streets, going to a show, dining out ... your city needs your prayers. Lift them up!
People, animals, weather, government officials, safety, peace, racial reconciliation, hope, care, gentleness, service, strength, good decisions ....
So glad to be a part of the #GBIMCATL Prayer Walk today. #prayforyourcity #prayforthenation
