I'm a little mad at myself for not knowing how important Juneteenth is to US. I always knew what is was but never bothered to look more into the significance it has on OUR independence. But I'm glad that it's always a good time to educate yourself and teach your kids outside of what they learn in school... I don't even know what we really celebrate on the 4th of July an I'm not saying I won't ever celebrate it again. But Juneteenth Day is what my household will acknowledge as Independence Day moving forward. Black Hoodie. Track 5 on the album. I just realized the news audio we used on this song is from 4 different parts of america. St. Louis... Oakland. New York.. and Florida. Different faces. Different generations. Same injustice. Same pain. I still haven't watched the video of what happened in Minnesota. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing that some of us are trying to avoid it. The more this happens...the more it feels like their intentions are to normalize it. Where are we safe...and what plan of action is needed to create real change without creating a divide between each other. Because some feel like protesting is effective...some feel like an eye for an eye is the way. But if this is still going on from long before we were born... How do we know which way is best. RIP to George Floyd and my prayers go out to his loved ones. I don't need to know his background. I don't need someone to tell me why he was being arrested. I want to know why Black Men can't feel safe once we step out of our house...and even in some cases we can't feel safe in our house. I want to know why we have to be killed for our names to trend. I don't walk or live in fear but it's scary to know that We feel safer in neighborhoods that have crime and violence everyday more than we feel safer around people who have been hired to protect and serve.
