⚽️= Draco teaching Neville a sport. It’s Quidditch!
He hadn’t been on a broom since his tumble when he was 11. Suffering from a broken wrist and a broken rib, the child had swore to never ride a broom again— With his terrible luck, he’d fall again and crack open his skull. Or worse, sob uncontrollably and cause himself severe embarrassment. Yet when Draco offered to teach him how to properly fly and play quidditch, Neville found himself intrigued— Excited, even.
Perhaps it was because Draco’s broom had the top safety features of the year. Perhaps it was because it was a nice gesture— One that was rare from Draco Malfoy. Maybe he was intrigued because of that, too: That it had been Draco to ask him.
Of course, the lesson took place in private. Neville knew it would be a genuine lesson if it was in private: Draco didn’t want his housemates to see him being. . Courteous towards a Gryffindor. Neville wasn’t offended, for he felt the same way; He didn’t want his own housemates to see him interacting with the ‘enemy.’ Even in private, Neville felt a little guilty for spending time with Draco. They’d only recently become civil with one another, but that didn’t mean Draco’s cruelty to Neville’s other classmates ceased. Or the wounds that Draco had caused him in the past had fully healed.
But all of this is forgotten once Neville’s feet hover a few inches off the ground: His broom, he’d managed to take off on his broom!
“L-Look! Look!” Neville bellowed in excitement, neck bobbing left and right as he studies his hovering feet with excitement in his eyes. Draco’s warm, guiding hand leaves Neville’s back as he steps away so that Neville can raise higher.
There’s a faint smile of approval on Draco’s face and that caused a heartstring to tug in Neville’s chest. He’d never seen Draco smile a smile that wasn’t actually a sneer.
“This is fantastic.” Neville breathes, though he wasn’t sure if he was referring to the smile or the fact that he was flying a broom.
