Well It Was About Time
I got my ass kicked. I have grown unfortunately observant to the proverbial karma. When things are really good, usually something bad happens soon after. Take it or leave it, that just seems to be the way it goes. If you read some of my previous stuff, you would see I crushed the physics midterm, and I got the whole abstract thing and we got the warehouse... Anyway, it was time.
So here we go: If you look back I posted my attempt at a Kaplan abbreviated MCAT before I had ever studied. I got a 17. Yes I was slightly embarrassed to post that here, but like I said, everything good AND BAD goes on here. Here the true embarrassment. 6 Months Later I took my first full length.
I got a 17.
What?
What now?
Well, I break it down like this. First I'm a realist so lets get this straight: I got my ass handed to me on a lovely silver platter. But here are some of the points I'm taking away from this.
I was very aware of the concepts on the test and while I wasn't sure how to answer many questions or how to extract the info from the passages, I had at least seen the material, most of it at least. That was my goal from day one so I feel 1/35,000th better
My scores flipped, while I got random 6 and 7 on the physical and biological respectively when I took it the first time, I had no idea what I was doing, and guessed on everything. My verbal was a 4... Verbal is the only thing that I have practiced real question for and that was an 8 this time around. I feel a bit better about that lets say 1/5,000th.
This was my first full length. It was a lot more painful than the abbreviated diagnostic test. I made it through all the sections with enough time and most importantly, I made it through All the verbal passages, with 42 seconds to spare. That made me excited.
So all in all, it was a massive failure and has prompted me to start my Kaplan on-line course a week early, but on the upside, I sat for my first full length, I now know what to expect, and I got a poignant kick in the ass to jumpstart my studying.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't very disappointed, but I'm trying to be positive about this whole thing and learn from it. I know if I work hard and stay focused, I can get that goal of a 32.
Semester resumes tomorrow so if anyone has any other questions they would like answered, send em' now so I can answer before life disappears again!
On a last side note, I really wish this had its own post, but here it is anyway: My first paper is "in-prep"! This is the study I am doing at the medical center and after hours of work this week, I was able to get the data ready to send to the statistician. Right after we got it together, we started the document with the title and therefore its in prep! In all seriousness, we are writing the intro, abstract, and methods too. But it is still exciting none the less.
Good luck finishing the year up everyone. Enjoy the spring!
