October Writing Challenge Day 9
Prompt: Nightmares Character: Pinapple
There had been no indication of time, it could have been hours, days, it felt like an eternity. There was no end to the oppressive visions, It was difficult to get her bearings. Nightmares weren’t like this, she knew that, yet couldn’t find a way to wake up.
There was design in this, it drew on the more vivid memories. Discovering her mother had died in the night, her father losing himself to leprosy and attacking her. The first time wolves had found her campsite. It was all she could do to keep herself from drowning in the guilt and fear. But she was never given the time to think her way through this, one leading to another, leading to another. Perhaps she had died? That thought disturbed her more than anything else. This could be her existence going forward, a maze of endless mental torments. It was exhausting.
Then, she heard it again, the muted laughter. She almost dismissed it, but her feet were moving, her eyes were shut, as she followed the sound. She remember hitting something hard, and a great fall before finding herself weightless, floating in nothingness. And then she saw it. Her body, drifting in slumber. Several dragoons seemed to be discussing something grim as they gave her worried glances. She saw it then, the Satyr, its body half phased into the bed, laughing as it manipulated dark energies around her head. It was plain to see that its presence was concealed from her friends, and as she rushed forward to try and get to her body, she hit some sort of invisible surface. As she pounded against this unseen force, he looked up at her, and laughed.
